To beat the Jets, the Patriots have to be themselves and play mistake free football. It sounds simple and has been simple for a couple of months. We know what we can expect from Brady in that regard. The Patriots do have rookies - Devin McCourty, Aaron Hernandez, Rob Gronkowski - in key roles. How will they respond to the playoff pressure? We'll find out soon. The Herald outlined a few keys to the game. more ›

Channel 5 reports there was a "flare-up" during halftime of Monday night's 41-14 rout over Miami between Randy Moss and at least one member of the Patriots coaching staff that led to today's trade of Moss to the Minnesota Vikings. In other Moss news, TMZ.com - really - reports Minnesota is already selling Moss #84, his number from his first rodeo in purple, jerseys. An NFL club selling a new player's shirt so quickly is not news. TMZ reporting it is. We'd pay to see Bill Belichick respond to a question about . Oh, and Ron Borges hated the deal. No shock there. more ›

Leave it to the Herald to offer us clarification on the real reason tonight's Bruins-Penguins game is so interesting: None of Marc Savard's teammates dealt with Matt Cooke properly at the time of his dastardly deed. Check out the Herald's front page with a clever "Wanted" poster calling every Bruin out to teach Cooke "a lesson" tonight. Ron Borges made the case that the Black&Gold should respond with "old time hockey" instead of a goonapalooza. We still expect fights - yes, plural - tonight and appreciate a tale of the tape. It seems that Mother Nature didn't think the Red Sox's doubleheader sweep of the Tigers on Thursday was impressive enough - the first games after that two-fer will be tidily bundled in another dual-game gameday. The Sox called Friday's scheduled game against their Interleague Play Atlanta visitors pretty early, deciding instead to go the route of a 1 p.m./7:35 p.m. Saturday schedule. The pitching breakdown: Dice-K vs. Braves pitcher Anthony Lerew in the afternoon game,... more ›

The Ron Borges been-caught-stealin' story ain't over. The Globe reporter who was suspended for two months without pay for taking content from the Tacoma News Tribune has stirred up quite the ethical debate over at Deadspin. more ›

With both local winter teams off Monday, all the local attention could focus on Globe writer Ron Borges, who was benched for two months for plagiarizing a Seattle writer in his Sunday football column. (Deadspin has the passages in question.) When asked for a quote, Borges said (not really): "'Tis a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done." more ›

Tedy Bruschi announced yesterday at a press conference that he will be returning to the Patriots' practice tomorrow after getting the okay from numerous doctors. After consulting with many specialists about his physical condition and whether or not he should ever play football again, Bruschi says that he has decided to come back. This past February, #54 suffered from a stroke caused by a small hole in his heart, leaving him blind and unable to even walk. He spent months in rehabiliation and now his doctors assure us that since fixing his heart, he is all set. While he first opted out of playing in the 2005 season, Bruschi has been sitting on the Pats bench watching his team get off to a mediocre 3-3 start this year. Bruschi claims that it's not his team's injuries or playing that is getting back on the field. As quoted in the press conference: ''I'm a football player. Playing the game is the most fun thing about it. There's meetings, practices, and training sessions you have to go through, but playing football and being part of this team - this New England Patriot team - is something I feel really special about. The game. The game is what I missed." more ›
