Boston Book EventsFrom the uber-trendy literary man visiting us tomorrow to the also uber-trendy musical man visiting us on Saturday, this week has its share of exciting book-related events. Try to make it to at least one!

">"Public masturbation a persistent problem at Tisch Library," reports that, in the past year, four women claim to have encountered inappropriate public acts of self pleasure in the library. It sounds hilarious, but it is sexual harassment.

--A man walking on a pond in Weymouth on Sunday fell in and was rescued before freezing to death. Neighbors heard his screams and called for help. The footage of the rescue was so dramatic that it's been making the rounds on CNN. [WCVB]

From Red Sox Monster, Bostonist hears that New York Giants fans have descended to pathetic levels in an attempt to boost their team's self-confidence. A radio station is distributing masks of Brady's ex and babymomma, Bridget Moynahan, in the hopes of distracting the quarterback to the Super Bowl.

At this time of year, all the local colleges are settling in to contemplate who is in and who is out. Kids with stars in their eyes are hoping to go to the school of their choice so they can go on to lucrative careers as doctors, lawyers, and Internet entrepreneurs. An entrance to Harvard might lead to Facebook-esque fame.

Already feeling the pressure of holiday family time? Leave the house. Run away. Tonight's events will help add some spice to your Santa.

It's a hot debate right now. The Somerville Journal posted pictures and video of the annual Tufts Naked Quad Run. The video and pictures are far from titillating. It's tush, tush, tush as far as they eye can see.

Harvard's sex magazine, H Bomb, is … uh … coming soon, and the staff threw a naked party in New York, according to the Crimson. And they had quite a turnout:

Michael Ian Black With Michael Showalter Thursday, November 29, 7:30pm Somerville Theatre 55 Davis Square, Somerville (T: Davis Square) Get tickets Listen to the Interview Here: Unless you've been living under a rock for the last 20 years, then you've seen the work of comedian/writer/actor/director Michael Ian Black. Let's rattle off just a few of his accomplishments: co-creator of "The State," "Viva Variety," and "Stella." You've seen him co-star in NBC's "Ed," as well as...

The Celtics are pleased to announce that they've added an extra level to the bandwagon, and it's poised to start its run tonight at the Garden against Washington. This is the original bandwagon, mind you; not the auxiliary bandwagons the team expects to roll out over the course of the season. Naysayers (and there are some) point out that the supporting cast around Ghidorah is untested and unreliable. OK, whatever. So their starting point guard,...

This hilarious shot from Flickr user Jiffy Cat was just too clever not to post. Besides simply making us smile, we love the colors and think it fits in quite nicely with our October action theme. The title says it all - Run!!...

The stage was set perfectly. Curt Schilling was making his comeback, adding the final link to the Sox' solid rotation. He pitched very well, had good stamina, gave fans confidence...but didn't win the game. Oops. Schill went six-plus, and kept the Anaheim bats in check for the most part. Casey Kotchman singled in two runs in the fourth, which could have been avoided if Curt had been quicker on the draw to cover a double-play...

We have a confession to make: we didn't pay a lot of attention to last night's Home Run Derby. Our tolerance for Chris Berman yelling "back back back" is low. Our desire to see kayakers crashing into each other in San Francisco Bay was present, but not overwhelming. And without Papi, what's the point? So congratulations to Anaheim's Vlad Guerrero, who won the Derby, despite the fact that no home runs landed in the huge...

When you're a kid, one of the fringe benefits to playing Little League or soccer is that you often got to stop at McDonald's on the way home. Win or lose. We're not sure if Major League teams have a similar policy, but if the Red Sox team bus stopped at a Mickey's outside of Detroit, no one on the team would be allowed to supersize today, after a miserable weekend getting swept by the...

The happiest Red Sox fans around have to be the ones who stopped watching baseball around 7:30 last night. They would have seen Game 1 of the doubleheader, a 13-3 Sox rout/Home Run Derby. They would have seen the Yankees' nightmarish loss to the Mets. But most importantly, they would have been spared Game 2, in which Atlanta demolished the Sox 14-0. A wild day all around. Game One was a laugher thanks in part...

Yesterday the fanfare that has been the opening celebration for the new ICA building in the Seaport district opened to the general public for a 12 hour free ride in the new space. The news today is that nearly 5,000 people visited the new facility over the course of the day, many of whom had positive things to say about it even after a two hour wait. The museum opened at 9 am and...

Massachusetts political junkies didn't have an excuse to stay up late because the governor's race was over before it began. Democratic candidate Deval Patrick was projected as governor before the polling places closed. It was hardly a race. Patrick pummeled, pounded, and then mopped the floor with the competition. Anyone hoping for a little political drama was quickly disappointed, and they had to look elsewhere for suspense. The big losers were Republican gubernatorial candidate...

If you're not into traveling all the way to the Tweeter Center for Journey and Def Leopard, check out this week's picks. Even if you are into heading down to the big name act's show you'll need something to do the rest of the week. There's no joking about it this week. Fall is here. By the time the weekend hits it's time to break out the cider and make some pumpkin pie. We're saving that for Sunday, however, the rest of the week is for music.

Tuesday 5/30

If you’re begrudging the workweek that put an end to the beautiful weekend the Bean just basked in, a morning at the beach in Southie seems like a satisfactory way to start the next. All the better to be there for a good cause: a fundraiser for multiple myeloma, a cancer of blood plasma cells that affects more than 50,000 Americans. The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation is working to bring this disease to its knees in part by hosting a 5k Walk/Run this Saturday morning, May 13, Mother’s Day weekend (consider yourself reminded) at Carson Beach.

This week we're trying hard to think about something other than how hard it is out here to be a pimp. Well, ok, maybe Bostonist is looking at the Oscars and just scratching our heads. We didn't know Jon Stewart could be that bland. We're still waiting to hear what Three 6 Mafia were wearing that made the camera all jakey last night. Now that we're done with the Academy we're looking back to Grammy....

The initials "GM" have taken on an entirely new meaning for the Red Sox of late. "Gigantic Mess" seems appropriate. It's been two weeks since the press conference where we saw Theo Epstein depart the position everyone assumed he'd hold until at least his twenty-year reunion at Yale. It's been two weeks since we saw principal owner John Henry, at the very same press conference, speak in a manner of disbelief usually reserved for those who have just been told there's no such person as Santa Clause.

The All-Star festivities began in earnest tonight as Phillies right fielder Bobby Abreu demolished the competition with 41 home runs, in total, to win the Home Run Derby. Not only did Bobby tear the covering off the baseball most often, he is the owner of this year's farthest traveled ball as well - a mammoth 517 feet. Chicks, indeed, do love the long ball, Bobby. Our own Big Papi, David Ortiz, showed up to mash as well and while he put 17 into the Comerica bleacher seats in round 1, he fell a little short in round 2 with only 3 dingers. No worries though, Bostonist says, save it for the game that "counts" - tonight's marquee All-Star game.

If you're really bored, Bostonist recommends this game: go to XL Recordings and watch the video for "Jus' A Rascal". Listen to the song and, maybe, while you're at it, look up the lyrics. Try to rap along with Dizzee. Results should be hilarious!
