If you’re begrudging the workweek that put an end to the beautiful weekend the Bean just basked in, a morning at the beach in Southie seems like a satisfactory way to start the next. All the better to be there for a good cause: a fundraiser for multiple myeloma, a cancer of blood plasma cells that affects more than 50,000 Americans. The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation is working to bring this disease to its knees in part by hosting a 5k Walk/Run this Saturday morning, May 13, Mother’s Day weekend (consider yourself reminded) at Carson Beach.

This week we're trying hard to think about something other than how hard it is out here to be a pimp. Well, ok, maybe Bostonist is looking at the Oscars and just scratching our heads. The initials "GM" have taken on an entirely new meaning for the Red Sox of late. "Gigantic Mess" seems appropriate. It's been two weeks since the press conference where we saw Theo Epstein depart the position everyone assumed he'd hold until at least his twenty-year reunion at Yale. It's been two weeks since we saw principal owner John Henry, at the very same press conference, speak in a manner of disbelief usually reserved for those who have just been told there's no such person as Santa Clause.

The All-Star festivities began in earnest tonight as Phillies right fielder Bobby Abreu demolished the competition with 41 home runs, in total, to win the Home Run Derby. Not only did Bobby tear the covering off the baseball most often, he is the owner of this year's farthest traveled ball as well - a mammoth 517 feet. Chicks, indeed, do love the long ball, Bobby. Our own Big Papi, David Ortiz, showed up to mash as well and while he put 17 into the Comerica bleacher seats in round 1, he fell a little short in round 2 with only 3 dingers. No worries though, Bostonist says, save it for the game that "counts" - tonight's marquee All-Star game.
