Bostonist is still feeling the egg nog. Therefore, the following magazine cover featuring Bill Belichick hit us hard. Enjoy it in all its glory: Wow. How did Sports Illustrated know that we already envisioned a hoodie-clad Belichick commandeering a sleigh in "'Twas the Night Before Christmas (Redux Remix)"? Also, keep checking Bostonist, where we'll be gazing back on the sports highlights, not to mention a few lowlights, for the year. The list of disappointments, starring......

Yet another way to realize the complete 180 undertaken by our local basketball organization presents itself to us today. Not only are some of us trudging back to work after a holiday break, but we also must accept that we're going to be bleary-eyed for the rest of the week. The reason? The Celts are on a road trip out West. Four games between now and Dec. 30, with three in Pacific Time and one......

Gifts were exchanged in Foxboro yesterday. From Miami to New England: a total lack of competition. From New England to Miami: Their foots off the gas pedal and a non-humiliation. 'Tis the season in the NFL. The Pats jumped out to an early lead, befitting a matchup of 14-0 against 1-13. Brady found Randy Moss twice (been a while since we've heard that!), then Laurence Maroney dashed away untouched for a career-long 59 yards for......

Today has all the anticipation of postseason award announcements, with all the anxiety of a Law & Order episode. This afternoon, George Mitchell's going to go public with his steroid report. There's all kinds of stuff in there about making improvements to testing and recommendations for ways to keep this from happening in the future, but all anyone really cares about is the "naming names" part of the process. Who will be implicated? Sources say......

Boston Celtic Kendrick Perkins might miss today's game against the Sacramento Kings because a bed attacked his toe. No kidding. Even the AP just let Perkins tell the story of the headboard that tried to take his toe: I was asleep. I guess whoever put my bed together didn't put it together right when I moved, so one side of my bed fell. My bed was tilted, so I got out of my bed to......

Tim Thomas has been a rock in goal for the Bruins; even when they've been floundering offensively - and make no mistake, they have - Thomas has played well enough to keep them in the game. But last night against Toronto, another team struggling to put the biscuit in the basket, the B's found their rhythm and controlled the tempo, punishing old friend Andrew Raycroft for a 5-2 win. (Your humble correspondent was there, doing......

With unseasonable weather descending upon much of North America, schools getting ready to reconvene, and sports seasons getting exciting, it's a busy time of year for us here in the Ist-A-Verse. Luckily, even with all the things we have to do, we still managed to get together to let you know what we've all been up to. After cooling down from a hot weekend of many badass Sunset Junction Street Fair photo dispatches, LAist asked......

No one has a more distinctive documentary style than Ken Burns. You know you're watching Burns when the screen goes sepia, when you hear period music, when you see long, slow pans of the camera over still photographs, and when you listen to famous actors squeeze every last emotion out of old letters. Burns, who already covered the Civil War, is back with "The War," a 14-hour documentary on how World War II affected the......

Last night, the Garden saw some serious ugly. After winning a few, Celtics fans had cause for optimism. However, they were facing the Houston Rockets, fifth in the West and fully stocked with Yao Ming. Even though the Rockets didn't exactly deliver a pitch-perfect performance, the Celtics collapsed quickly and never caught up. The final score was 111 to 80, and the Rockets made 15 three-pointers. The performance was so bad that we thought we......

The Celtics lost to the Kings 104 to 101. They had no business losing. After some good luck with beating the Bucks and Gerald Green's victory at the All-Star Slam Dunk contest, the Celtics were coming into their game with the Sacramento Kings with a little momentum. They had a shot, as the Kings are low on the totem pole in the West, and they have a major dose of crazy since Ron Artest sprouted......

Trot Nixon has moved on to the Cleveland Indians for a $3-million-dollar contract. Seems like the Sox put him to pasture: "Nixon had repeatedly expressed a preference to remain with the Sox, even as a series of injuries severely curtailed his production the last three seasons." Dirt Dogs quotes Mark Huntley of Red Sox Nation in NYC: "When will this ownership and this general manager learn that players are not just interchangeable parts to be......

It was about 7:30pm yesterday when the sky started getting dark. It may have been clouds that would bring in some overnight rain. Or maybe it was just a sign that summer is starting to wind down. The season of outdoor shows is starting to wind down and things will begin to move back indoors. Some of the best music in town this week will get you inside, even if there is still a......

Did you forget that this town has an NBA team, which just so happens to be in the first-place spot of their division? That's right, the C's are in first place, four games up on the 76ers, who are having trouble trying to figure out how to use this ... this "Chris Webber"-thing they got from Sacramento while they play catch-up in the Atlantic division. Four games up on a team that's struggling to gel......
