What else can we say about these photos but Merry Christmas! We think there's something in these photos for almost everyone. Enjoy the 2010 SSRun (Santa Speedo Run) in pictures. The 11th annual run is a fundraiser for the Starlight Children's Foundation, Play Ball Foundation, and Hospitality Homes.
Christian Nachtrieb was at the Speedo Run yesterday and graciously agreed to let us post some of his pics. He encountered several Santas that we missed, including some lovely reindeer, a ribbon-nippled dude, a Red Sox Santa, and the "tickle my tinsel" man.
In case the Santa Speedo Run photos weren't enough to satiate your thirst for festive flesh, here's a video. As with last year's carols, the cheering audible in the video really helps give a more complete sense of the Speedo Run experience. (For a really complete sense, you gotta be out there in the cold yourself.) Watch out for a change in orientation in the middle--nobody ever said we knew how to use a video camera.
We attended the Santa Speedo Run last year, and had so much fun (especially with a certain Santa, ho ho ho!) that we decided to return. Our photography skills may have declined (in part due to frozen fingers), but the fun did not. As we walked down Boylston toward Lir (where the run begins and ends: gotta get liquored up to bear that chill), our main thought was, "It is really fucking cold." But the runners soldiered on, for a good cause: the Santa Speedo Run is an annual benefit for Crossroads for Kids and Bottom Line. Each of the 500 Santas are required to raise at least $250 to participate in the run, making it a display of generosity as well as flesh.
After seeing our photo gallery of yesterday's Santa Speedo Run many of you may have wondered what kind of person would have the tenacity to strip down to spandex and run around spreading Christmas cheer so liberally. Bostonist was fortunate enough to catch up with first-time Santa Speedo Runner Phil Brown during his post-run celebration to learn what it takes.
It may have been in the high twenties today, but that didn't stop hundreds of Santas in speedos from showing up on Boylston street for the annual Santa Speedo Run to benefit Cradles to Crayons, a local Boston charity.
