Let's say you're going to the Celtics-Timberwolves game tonight. If you're like most of the people at Celtics games these days, chances are you weren't there last year. Which is perfectly legal on your part. But there's something you should know. Most of the Timberwolves played here last year, during that long, miserable 06-07 campaign, and several of them - promising, hardworking youngsters for the most part - were sent away to make room for......

It's easy now to sit back and bask in the glory that has been the Boston athletics scene in 2007. World champions in baseball, undefeated in the NFL regular season, second place in Major League Soccer, packing crowds into the TD Banknorth Garden for the Celts and (to a lesser degree) the Bruins...we have it good. But it's our job to remind you that there were days where hats were thrown, hands were clenched, and......

--Some alleged bonehead from North Carolina got arrested after he tried to take a loaded gun on a plane at Logan. The lawyer for John C. Megelich says the guy didn't realize he had it in his bag. We don't know how you wouldn't notice a loaded gun. The DA's Office released some more details. Megelich, who was flying from Boston to Detroit, dared to put the gun through security in his briefcase, and security......

Green Kool-Aid is our favorite flavor. (Yes, Green is a flavor.) We've been chugging the semi-sour variety of it for three years now, as Danny Ainge has told us that we'd been assembling key parts for a magical youth movement that would lead the Celtics back to glory. And we've sipped the ultra-sour variety for a month, trying to figure out what kind of a youth movement features a creaky 32-year-old shooter. But today, the......

Weren't we told that losing the Lottery wasn't a big deal? Since this was the most loaded draft in years, the story went, the Celtics would happily grab a good player with the #5 pick that would complement Paul Pierce and the burgeoning youth movement, and join in on the team that would compete soon and for years to come. Yeah; not so much. Like a rube on a carnival midway, Danny Ainge fell for......

The bewhiskered gent at right is General William Tecumseh Sherman, who split the South in two during the Civil War with his famous march through Georgia. Last night may not have been as deeply psychologically scarring for residents of the Peach State, but it was a pretty good whuppin' just the same. The Red Sox pounded the Braves 11-0, behind a slew of home runs and another great outing by the astounding Julian Tavarez. J.D.......

This should come as no surprise - Sebastian Telfair has been given the heave by the Celtics organization after getting arrested on another gun charge in Yonkers. Wyc Grousbeck e-mailed the press to announce that the organization removed Telfair's nameplate from the lockers. Telfair has pleaded not guilty, and he says that the gun was registered to Telfair's wife. That was Telfair's explanation the last time he was caught with a gun when he was......

-- Who would have thought the Red Sox would be happy to leave Fenway? And after a series with Toronto, no less? The orange of Camden Yards will seem heavenly after a groaner of a loss at Fenway Park on Tuesday night. The Jays knocked around the Sox, 10-3, in front of the largest crowd at Fenway since World War II. Ouch. As the Globe's Nick Cardafo summed up post-game, it was awful. True, the......

This Japanese Word of the Day will, we hope, be brought to you by Daisuke Matsuzaka, who will try to use his houri to send the Yankees packing tonight. The Red Sox took game two of the latest Ultimate Regular Season Series yesterday; Josh Beckett recovered from a couple shaky innings to hold New York in check. David Ortiz provided the big hit, as he is wont to do, with a two-run homer around......

It's rare when we get to cross into Matt Taibbi turf, but Celtic Sebastian Telfair's gun-and-speeding charge allows us to do so. The Redux has already pointed out that Telfair didn't get the memo when he was busted for packing heat in 2006. Shira Springer points out that Telfair's latest incident in Yonkers is his "third brush with [the] law in 14 months." If only Telfair put the same amount of time in his basketball......

-- One down! After the five-game pounding that the Red Sox took from the Yankees at Fenway last August, Friday's matchup was more than just a game. It was more than just the first rivalry game of the season. It was about avenging the embarrassment that continued to smart for Sox fans over the winter and into the early season. The game itself was a battle of the best kind: one in which we came......

The Bruins had their last game after flaming out so spectacularly toward the end of the season. They took on Ottawa and did what they do best - they lost, 6 to 3. When the Celtics are fighting harder than you are, you know it's time to hang it up. Coach Dave Lewis offered his typically cheerful thoughts on the season finale: "It's an awful feeling to play the last game of the year in......

You probably read yesterday that Jonathan Papelbon will, in fact, be the Red Sox closer this year, and probably for years to come. Why they didn't just announce this at the beginning of camp, when we all suspected this was going to happen eventually, is beyond us. But we still love the idea of players blogging, if it means Dan Shaughnessy will fade further into irrelevance. The bad news in Fort Myers is that......

Things are quiet now that the Pats won't be at the Super Bowl, so Bostonist took a little breather from the Redux. The Bruins are also off for the NHL All-Star Break. That leaves the Celtics and, if Bostonist stretches a tad, the retirement of Bill "Tuna" Parcells, former Pats coach and professional zinger-slinger. Celtics 89, San Antonio Spurs 93 (Monday night) – Beating the Celtics wasn't good enough for Tim Duncan. Apparently Duncan likes......

Professional Bruin and full-time Iron Man Phil Kessel scored the winning goal in a shootout against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Elsewhere, say what you will about the Celtics, but at least they know how to dress. Well, maybe only one of the Celtics knows how to dress. The Globe took a peek inside Sebastian Telfair's closets and found some seriously high-end merchandise, with an emphasis on Louis Vuitton. This news led Bostonist to what might be......
