In between data muckups, the Globe managed to express the contradictory success of the Brown campaign in as succinct a way as we've seen: "Brown backers say they are voting for change. Instead, they are supporting a slick, packaged politician who is happy to manipulate them. There’s nothing new about that." [Globe] more ›

On Scott Brown's: "The guy sounds like a fictional character in some racy David E. Kelley show about politics. Tonight on an all new Mass Appeal: Senator McDangly exercises his pocket veto." On Democratic bumbling: "It's not that the Democrats are playing checkers and the Republicans are playing chess, it's that the Republicans are playing chess and the Democrats are in the nurse's office because once again they glued their balls to their thighs." If you don't know that today is Election Day, you probably don't know enough to be voting. Know where you vote. Know your candidates (Kennedy, Coakley. Know their Brown) and their records. And don't let forces other than the issues, whether those forces be GM trucks or political machines, drive your vote. Update: You can report your voting experience to the Globe. If you're into that kind of thing. more ›

You may have heard that some guy named Barack Obama is coming to campaign for Martha Coakley today at 3pm (doors at 1pm, but if you're not already lined up we assume you won't get in) at Northeastern University's Cabot Center. You may not have heard that John Kerry will campaign for Coakley in Worcester starting at 11am (aka right now) and going to 12:30pm outside Worcester Memorial Auditorium, Lincoln Square, Worcester. Scott Brown will also be in Worcester, having The People's Rally at 3pm at 321 Main Street in Worcester. Tomororw, MLK Day finds Brown at a MLK Memorial Breakfast at Hynes Convention center at 8am, then busing from Quincy (9:30am) to Plymouth (events between 11:30am and 1:15pm). Coakley will also be at the Hynes breakfast, and there are rallies for her in Pittsfield, Springfield, and Framingham as well. more ›

A recent Scott Brown rally in the North End revealed how easily we forget the past when distracted by hope for the future. People are getting excited about Scott Brown, but is this candidate really who Team Tea Party thinks he is? more ›

It seems that Scott Brown is pushing beyond his base in more ways than one. Not only is he looking for independent voters, he also seems to have a predominance of support from outside the state of Massachusetts. You know, from people who can't vote for him, and whom he wouldn't represent. We just conducted a highly scientific study (that's sarcasm, folks) that analyzed random #MAsen tweets in support of Scott Brown. Here are where the 20 Scott Brown Twitter supporters we clicked on (claim they) live: more ›

Blue Mass Group has a Scott Brown scandal poll going on. The site asks whether it would be more scandalous to discover, among other invented situations, that Brown can't drive a standard or thinks Joe was funnier than Curley and Schemp. Red Mass Group, on the other hand, uncovers an alleged scandal involving a Coakley supporter (possibly Michael Meehan) pushing a reporter to the ground. The video kinda makes it look like the reporter just fell, but maybe Democrats are really that malicious. (Or could it have been a sneaky Brown supporter just in it for the money?) Things are getting contentious in this race! May the best scandal win. more ›

Oh, Martha Coakley. How could you misspell Massachusetts? It's not like it's a difficult, cumbersome word, reflecting the overly complex infrastructure of the region it names. Or maybe the move was intended to reflect a sense of femininity, reminding the crucial female vote of Martha's -etteness? We're starting to feel a little bit feministe over here! more ›

In an odd twist, conservative columnist Jeff Jacoby offers three solid reasons to vote for Martha Coakley next Tuesday: "Coakley supports ObamaCare, opposes the war in Afghanistan, and favors higher taxes on the wealthy." As Brown (not to mention Coakley) reminds us all, this is the "people's seat." And since people want to tax the rich, oppose the war in Afghanistan, and desire better health insurance options, it looks like the people want Coakley. Gee, people even prefer Democratic representatives to Republicans. So why all the hubbub over Brown again? Maybe it's those dashing good looks. more ›

Well, the polls predicted it, and now the results are in: Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley (D) and State Senator Scott Brown (R) will face off in the Senate special election on January 19, joining already-declared Libertarian candidate Joe Kennedy. Perhaps more surprising than the outcome were the margins: on the donkey side, Coakley brought in 47% of the vote to Michael Capuano's 28%, while Brown (more predictably) routed Jack E. Robinson with 89% of elephant votes. more ›

We caught a primary candidate debate last week, so what better time for another than tonight? We weren't typing away as the debate progressed this time, so we poked around the Twinternet to get some perspectives. Kennedy Seat has Pagliuca claiming victory, something we're skeptical about after seeing his figures-heavy but comprehension-light performance last week. The Khazei Campaign also says it came out on top: "While the other candidates squabbled and promoted their plans for more business as usual, Alan clearly articulated his vision for our Commonwealth and our country." The MCs have not claimed victory yet that we've seen. more ›

In a semi-surprising move, the Boston Globe endorses Alan Khazei in the Democratic primary for Senate. The Globe calls the City Year founder "Massachusetts’ best chance to produce another great senator," citing Khazei's strong vision, collaborative talents, and forward-thinking stance. Other candidates are criticized: Michael Capuano for basing his campaign on "populist anger," Martha Coakley for lacking "legislative energy", and Stephen Pagliuca as "not a good fit" for the Senate job. Folks at Blue Mass Group wonder if the Khazei endorsement is anything more than a union-busting move for charter schools, and note that the Boston Pressmen's Union endorsed Capuano a while ago, putting the Globe in (unsurprising) conflict with some of its own workers. more ›

Former Massachusetts governor is backing current Massachusetts representative Michael Capuano in the Senate race. With the final debate looming Monday and the Democratic primary set for December 8, will the support of Dukakis make any difference in this race? Capuano sure hopes so, we imagine. more ›

Bostonist was there for the taping of the debate between Democratic primary candidates competing for the chance to get Teddy Kennedy's senate seat in the upcoming January special election. Here's our record of what happened, in case you didn't get to watch for yourself. We weren't supposed to post before the thing actually aired. This is unedited, uncut, so forgive errors--will correct as soon as possible! And to be clear, this is by no means an exact transcript--there's lots of paraphrase, and a little snide commentary. (Full program if you missed it.) more ›

Tomorrow, two debates will take place that might help you make a decision in the special election race to fill Ted Kennedy's senate seat. First, the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce sponsors a debate between the Republican candidates Scott Brown and Jack E. Robinson tomorrow at 8am. It's too late to register (aka pay through the nose) to attend, sadly, but we'll try to round up some reactions for you. more ›
