So, we knew the Globe had its problems, but today we're really confused. As of 12:45pm today, January 19, 2010, a Globe infographic (pictured above, in case they fix it) has Martha Coakley winning with 50% of the vote and "100% reporting" as of "3:48 pm" (elsewhere known as "12:36 am"). Additionally, more than half of Massachusetts' approximately 4 million registered voters have already turned out to vote—and had their votes recorded—by 12:45 slash 3:48 pm. That'd be impressive turnout for an entire day of voting. Can you spot additional errors? Our heads are imploding over here. Is the Globe rigging this election? (Note: we're not seriously suggesting this would happen.) Did somebody hack its data feeds? Are we dreaming? WHAT IS GOING ON? more ›

We've kinda been covering the race to fill Massacusetts' Senate seat as though it were Democrat-only, and it has been more than 40 years since Massachusetts elected a Republican to the U.S. Senate, but Massachusetts Republicans do exist. And there are even two of them going head to head in next week's primary for the chance to be the elephant on the ballot in January. WGBH will host a Republican Senatorial Forum (like its Democratic Senatorial Forum) with primary candidates Scott Brown and Jack E. Robinson next Monday, December 7, airing at 7pm on WGBH 2, WGBH 89.7. If you aren't swayed by any of the Democrats thus far, you might look into these "Republican" characters and see what they have to say. Non-party candidates have until Tuesday, December 8 (the date of the party primaries) to file for candidacy. William S. Coleman and Joe Kennedy are the possible independent candidates at this time (as we said, Schilling's out). more ›

Bostonist was there for the taping of the debate between Democratic primary candidates competing for the chance to get Teddy Kennedy's senate seat in the upcoming January special election. Here's our record of what happened, in case you didn't get to watch for yourself. We weren't supposed to post before the thing actually aired. This is unedited, uncut, so forgive errors--will correct as soon as possible! And to be clear, this is by no means an exact transcript--there's lots of paraphrase, and a little snide commentary. (Full program if you missed it.) more ›

Tonight, Massachusetts Senate candidate Mike Capuano will have an "Open Mike" event at Amrhein's Restaurant (80 W. Broadway, South Boston) from 6 to 7 pm (you might want to scoot out early to catch the mayoral debate at 7). The event will primarily be a platform for folks like you to ask questions. No word on whether Capuano will buy everyone a beer. RSVP at the Facebook event page (login required). more ›

After Senator Edward Kennedy's unfortunate seizure during the inauguration yesterday, Caroline Kennedy has announced that she is withdrawing her bid for new Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's New York Senate seat. Was it the MoDo column? The reduction of her identity to "mere" writer? "A person" informed of Caroline's decision says that Teddy's health was the dealbreaker. more ›
