In case you hadn't heard, President Barack Obama and family are spending their summer vacation on Martha's Vineyard. The trip is slated to begin a week from yesterday, and today the Herald informed us about one part of his potential itinerary. Obama may visit Senator Ted Kennedy at his Hyannisport home, if the Senator is up to it. Bostonist hopes Teddy feels good enough to host Obama. We're nervous, though, as his battle with a malignant brain tumor seems to be an uphill fight.

Ted Kennedy has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor.
On top of the loss of his chosen presidential candidate, Barack Obama, in the Massachusetts primaries (debate on the "Kennedy Lift" here), Senator Ted Kennedy now has to deal with more rumors about the Kennedy Clan.
People, so many people, mostly young people, people everywhere. There were so many people waiting in line for Senator Barack Obama's rally at the Seaport World Trade Center last night that the campaign turned the queue into a phone bank, handing out lists of voters and asking people to use their cell phones to plead for support. There were so many people waiting in the cold that a nearby Dunkin' Donuts had to prematurely close its doors after it sold every ounce of coffee in stock. So many people.

Cape Wind has already suffered delays galore as opponents figure out what else they can study about the wind farm in Nantucket Sound--and they've received another delay for Christmas.
Despite the efforts of those who don't want wind turbines in Nantucket Sound, the Cape Wind project keeps coming back like a pissed-off zombie. Opponents may try to kill it, but Cape Wind springs back to life with continued vigor. Cape Wind opponents might want to bar the door this time because the AP has reported that contributions to the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound have dropped. The Alliance raised $2 million in 2006--a hefty...
Today, House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi presented a major renewable energy bill today that will be debated next week. Right after DiMasi's announcement and also in the State House, authors Wendy Williams and Robert Whitcomb gave a presentation to legislators about a specific way to achieve that goal--investment in wind energy.
Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy underwent surgery this morning for a partially blocked artery in his neck. Here's the details: "As part of a routine evaluation of Senator Kennedy's back and spine, MRI studies picked up an unrelated, asymptomatic blockage in the senator's left carotid artery," said a statement from Kennedy's Washington office. "This morning, Senator Kennedy underwent preventive surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital to remove the blockage." Doctors were checking on his back because he...
Senator Ted Kennedy might be writing a book about his career, and he has hired a lawyer who has worked with other big leaders (as in the Clintons) on their books. His adviser has leaked it but is being awfully tight-lipped about what the book will involve. The mere fact that the announcement emphasizes his career rather than his life suggests that it won't be the juicy tell-all that many people would like to see....
So yelled Daily Show correspondent Jason Jones when he stopped a kid from flying a kite on a Cape beach. Jones' investigation into the protest against Cape Wind, the project to build wind turbines in Nantucket Sound, revealed exactly why so many powerful people want to stop the project. The powerful people could have talked to him, but he and author Wendy Williams discovered that not just anyone can get close to the Kennedy Compound,...
There was an Old Man of Nantucket Who often set sail in a bucket When faced with a Man Who had a grand plan Well, as for the Earth, he said __________. Cape Wind, the hotly debated proposal to build a wind-turbine farm in Nantucket Sound, looks like a brilliant idea. Building wind turbines that took advantage of Cape Cod winds would relieve pressure on the electrical grid, generate clean energy, and help wean the...
Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy gave the kind of speech that makes people want to stand up and cheer. He's always been a smooth talker, but he threw a little bit of Howard Dean's barbaric yawp into the mix, and the result was explosive. Here's Teddy railing against the Republicans tacking on more and more amendments, which are slowing down the passage of an increase in the minimum wage: At about three minutes into the video,...
You all know how Bostonist loves its random news stories and this one definitely fits into this category. (Now we must preface that we just find the story a bit odd and once we saw that ABC News reported on it, we just had to talk about it.) It seems that U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy (RI) took a hammer to the face today at the least likely violent environments, an economic meeting in lovely Pawtucket,...
The baseball gods smiled down on Bostonist and graced us with a ticket to attend the first game of the season at Fenway Park. The mood around the park was exhilarating and obviously upbeat. Fans were hanging out at every single bar down Lansdowne, laughing, eating, and getting numb prepared for the first pitch at Fenway. At around 1:30 pm the mounting cheers from inside the park signaled to all fans that the Opening Day festivities were starting, and they began their mad dash to their respective seats. Bostonist made it into the park by way of Gate B near the bleachers and worked our way to the other side, all the while taking some photos and checking out the newly completed work to old Fenway Park.
For our favorite family that seems to constantly be in the eye of the storm another unexplained occurance has befallen a member. Joan Kennedy, the ex-wife of Senator Ted Kennedy (D-Mass), was found in the early morning hours on Tuesday lying on a street in Boston with a concussion and a broken shoulder. The media is being polite about the Joan Kennedy incident only citing her past troubles with alcoholism, rather than the standard tag that goes something like "Police are unsure if alcohol was involved in this incident." The AP reports:
The Stem Cell debate has come to the Hub. As expected Senator Ted Kennedy is butting heads with Governor Mitt Romney. The Governor opposes the expanded use of embryonic stem cells in research for moral reasons. His claim that you must create life and then discard it, this, he claims, would put us closer to "barbarism." Kennedy is working at the federal level with a bill that would lift the ban on funding for the use of embryonic stem cells created after the August 2001 date. Federal funds are important to many researchers who fear that if they use stem cells in their research they may lose the federal funding supporting much of their operations. The debate has come home to the Hub; State Senate President Robert Travaglini has introduced a bill that will change the current state law to allow, explicitly, research using adult and embryonic stem cells. The debate continues tomorrow…
