A State Trooper was struck by a car in South Boston this morning on a detail near where Frontage Road meets the Massachusetts Turnpike just before the Ted Williams Tunnel. State Police said the hit-and-run driver fled in a dark-colored sedan, possibly a Volvo or Toyota, with a damaged right front end. According to State Police, the trooper was checking for speeding drivers and was on the Route 90 Eastbound ramp coming from Route 93 Northbound.

Colonel Marian J. McGovern, the Massachusetts State Police Superintendent, was hit by an alleged drunk driver today in Shrewsbury. Col. McGovern was at a stop light in her unmarked police Ford Explorer when she was rear-ended. Col. McGovern checked on the driver and determined she was intoxicated. Another cruiser responded and arrested the driver for her fifth drunken driving offense. An arraignment in Westboro District Court is set for tomorrow. Col.
