A viral video posted by our brothers and sisters at Gothamist shows some women who pole danced in a train car on a dare from darejunkies.com, much to the chagrin of the MTA. The video is something to behold, although, after seeing all the crotch-grinding and the dubious looks of some of the men enjoying themselves, we wouldn't want to touch anything in that car after the women finished. Here's the video: Given that this... more ›

Since Bostonist knows you are all gearing up for the big anniversary party tomorrow night at the Kinsale, we assume you’ll all be staying home and resting tonight…well, okay probably not, but we thought we’d do a news roundup today because hell, it’s Friday. We certainly don’t expect you to read a newspaper. Bar Brawl on Newbury Street: Bostonist has had its fleeting moments of drunkenness over on Newbury Street’s basement level bar, Daisy Buchanan’s.... more ›

For all you "Smykowskis" out there, fear no longer...local company Big Idea Group (BIG) wants to make long-shot brainchild into a real product. Ok, so they're actually located in Manchester, but it's not as if New Hampshire is a stranger to product innovation. more ›

Some spots in Boston are unique even when they’re not lit up. For a while we’ve referred to the house near the Arborway and Centre St. rotary as the Castle. Part Tudor design, part castle and no moat the house sits majestically during the summertime near the Arnold Arboretum and in the winter it’s all a-twinkle with more lights than we’ve seen just about anywhere outside of Somerville. Since Bostonist was cruising the Arbor/Jamaica/Riverway without our camera Bostonist’s good friend Michelle Dean snapped some photos for us. She’s an amateur photographer so the luminosity of the Castle speaks for itself her flash was barely used. more ›

Bostonist decided to take a break from the MFA and head over to the Harvard Univerity Art Museums this past weekend; while we recall visiting the Peabody Museum on a high school field trip, we don’t recall ever wandering into any of the art museums that Harvard has to offer. The biggest draw right now is the Degas exhibit at the Sackler museum, which is home to the University’s permanent Asian, Indian, and Islamic art collections. Running until November 27, this special exhibit is dedicated to Edgar Degas, who is usually grouped in with the Impressionist artists, except that he didn't like all that "plein air" painting and often focused on portraits inside a studio. The exhibit features his works in pastels, bronze, and pencil, which focus on three main topics: ballerinas, horse racing, and nudes. While Bostonist mostly associates Degas with his drawings of ballerinas, he also spent much time focusing on nudes, especially women getting out of the bathtub. At first Bostonist had to ask “how were these women okay with being drawn getting out of the tub?”, but we got past that and went on to appreciate Degas's many sketches of the bathers. The only downsides to “Degas at Harvard” were a wish for more art on display and fewer people to appreciate it. We showed up at noon and had to wait until 2:00 p.m. to enter the exhibit. Tickets are $7.50 per person (free with your Harvard employee I.D. or Cambridge Library card; there are student discounts too); the admission gets you into all of the Harvard University Art Museums. more ›

version will be playing tonight for free at the Hatch Shell as part of the WBZ Free Friday Flicks series. It’s a little cooler by the river - forecasts have the temperature dipping below 80 by the 8:30 p.m. showtime tonight. Since Bostonist has seen Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory so many times, it’s become something of a challenge to try and pick out all the goofs reported on IMDB and try to find something we can add to the list. Sadly, when we submitted "the river is chocolate, not water," it was rejected. more ›

Since Bostonist can’t read German we’ve got no idea what they’re trying to get across to us, but we may be a target. Some have speculated that bloggers may be the targets of the latest spam attack. We’ve been reading some blogs that have actually even helped us understand what the spammers are talking about with their statements in German. The latest attack seems to be hitting GMail users worse than others. This is perhaps because GMails spam definitions haven't kept up and the Sober.Q messages are making it to the inbox. Google might not keep our mail safe but with Google's language tools we can find out what our spam is saying.

Since Bostonist has this week off (thank you, April vacation), we decided to explore outside the city limits in a little place called Watertown. With a list of recommendations from a friend, Bostonist has been out exploring all that Watertown has to offer--like cheaper rents, great restaurants, and convenient location. Bordering Brighton and Cambridge, Watertown is close to the city, without all the crime, crazy people, ineffective local government, etc. that comes with living in those places. Today Bostonist strolled over to Coolidge Square to check out Cosmo's Ice Cream and Cupcakes, a great new addition to the already stellar offerings in that area. Bostonist initially cringed when asked to pay $2 for a cupcake, but it was totally worth it. more ›
