BARONESS Friday, November 30th Middle East Downstairs Cambridge, MA w/ Witchcraft, Radio Moscow 18+ / $10 ADV / $12 DOS MySpace: Baroness The debut EP First by Savannah's Baroness was a bit of al ife-changer. More of a life-reinvigorator. Produced by Phillip Cope of Kylesa, the three tracks harnessed much that had been missing from the blend of technical metal with a heavy dose of stoner meticulousity. To call the Southeast band "metal" is...

While SFist cringed at the fatal dose of crime littering the Bay Area, it found solace in Hillary Clinton's San Francisco campaign headquarters opening, which featured loads of exposed mammary glands. In other news, SF Taxi Commission ruled that Satan's cab must keep its (in)famous medallion number, 666; and in an un-fashion-forward frenzy, San Francisco Fashion Week (chortle) bars bloggers from covering and getting smashed at their shows and parties, respectively. Also, they found a...

A startup by some MIT grads started making waves a year ago when they began putting some venture capital to use to build their social networking site. After a year of growth some issues arose with their name, coincidentally with their expansion from Boston into New York City and the Bay Area. HeyLetsGo was to be no more; they were looking for a new name. Today they announced their new identity: Going.com.

Since daylight savings time kicked it's been hard to get a good nights sleep. Up too late, and up again the next day too early. This week promises to keep us in that very same groove with a list of great music coming to Boston. Who needs sleep anyway? Don't forget to give your support to Exploit Boston Radio, they've got their fingers crossed that Congress and their favor of big label music will be beaten. Listen up for hot local tunes.

Web 2.0 has been established as a way of life for many users of the vast network of tubes internets. From social networking sites, wikis, to tools of collaborative authoring, the web has become a different beast than it once was. Perhaps a better web than it once was. Personal relationships in that thing called "real life" or unwired relationships are touched by email, MySpace, Flickr, instant messaging, among others. So what happens when you're crossed by a lover? You get dumped, or need to dump someone? Or the break-up has happened and you need to implement a necessary no-contact period?

With all the social networking sites out there it’s just so hard. Did we remember to check myspace and friendster for bulletins? Is our Hey Lets Go group up to date? What’s going on on Upcoming.org – is there a hot new group we’re missing? We’re not going to stop checking all those sites, but we’re going to add to our list. Tourfilter.com popped up on the radar early this month and we’re digging on it. The interface is the feel of craigslist with the information we get from upcoming. Everything is wrapped up in one little package that automates things a bit so we can enter in our favorite band’s name and wait for the email to come to us. Perfect.

We’ve been dwelling on the ‘to couple or not to couple’ question all day long. In addition to the sweet selections we made yesterday for what you could be doing tonight we’ve got another tip, Like Life. Bostonist was trying to get ourselves geared up for a party bus ride around Boston to celebrate Valentine’s Day, but the idea of hopping a bus on date day wasn’t really the cup of tea we wanted to be sipping. It reminded us of some record breaking god awful idea of a 48 hour blind date.

Venture capital, that risky investing that took a turn for the worse when the tech bubble burst with the new millennium, is backing Boston businesses again. Honestly, we’re not surprised. After making our way through a lengthy Boston Globe article on the Boston start-up blog directory, Gather.com, it’s abundantly clear that there is money to be had in the worlds of new technology. Gather has grabbed $6 mil. and they’re still running in Beta. But...
