Speaking of wanting to appear on Matt Taibbi's Sports Blotter, no local sports figure has craved it more than Billy Tibbetts. Tibbetts, a burly and surly hockey right wing who briefly played for a host of teams - including some in the NHL - and who was on the reality show "Be a Bruin," led police on a high-speed chase in Abington. He eventually crashed into a telephone pole and tried to hide from the cops in a stranger's back yard early Monday morning. Can you imagine looking out the window and wondering, "What the hell is Billy Tibbetts doing in my back yard?"

We saw some serious ex-Red Sox Sports Blotter Action yesterday. Former pitcher Ugueth Urbina was sentenced to 14 years in prison in Venezuela for attempted murder. And not just any attempted murder. Urbina doused five of his own employees with gasoline and paint thinner and went after them with a machete. Somebody clearly just watched Reservoir Dogs. Then again, don't answer that because that picture looks like a mugshot. This guy is renowned history professor Felipe Fernandez-Armesto of Tufts University. He has published academic books through Simon & Schuster, not just University of Eastern Podunk Press. But, after today, he'll be better known as the prof who somehow managed to get arrested in Atlanta.
