Joseph F. Limone, 60, of Winthrop, was stopped for his eighth drunk driving arrest Tuesday in Revere. He pleaded not guilty on Wednesday at Chelsea District Court, but was held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing. As Limone hasn't had a valid driver's license since 1985, he is also charged with operating on a revoked license and giving a fake name to police. He has drunk driving in 1983, 1984, 1987, 1996, 2001, and 2007. Limone was allegedly tailgating another car and yelling at the driver. [Globe] more ›

A Middlesex grand jury indicted a Lowell police officer on Thursday for raping two prostitutes and soliciting prostitution from others. The alleged rape and soliciting incidents happened while the officer was on duty. He was working the overnight shift when he began soliciting prostitutes beginning in 2009. He allegedly told one victm she could avoid arrest by having sex with him. [Globe] more ›

A 61-year-old woman was allegedly attacked on the Esplanade this morning and thrown in the Charles River. The victim said she was struck on the back of the head around 3 a.m. and pushed into the river. She was reportedly not sexually assaulted. Four Massachusetts residents died yesterday after a series of storms suddenly spawned tornadoes that swept through the state on Wednesday. The four deaths were in West Springfield (two), one in Springfield, and one in Brimfield. The killer storms took place in a 3-4 hour span and the entire state faced the threat of a tornado. A surprising amount of damage was spread around in 19 cities and towns in Western and Central Massachusetts as trees and buildings and cars were thrown every direction and, in cases, destroyed. more ›

Storms are moving towards eastern Massachusetts at 35 mph and tornadoes have reportedly been spotted in Westfield, Worcester, Monson, Oxford, Wilbraham, Agawam and Springfield. Channel 5 reported that Westfield police spotted an apparent tornado in the Shaker Road area of the town and the Globe reported ham radio operators saw tornado near downtown Springfield headed toward the South End of the city and East Longmeadow. State Police arrested a man for allegedly slapping a flight attendant on a JetBlue flight from West Palm Beach (FL) to Logan Airport. The Globe reported Bryan Garnett, 48, from Utica, N.Y., will be charged with interfering with a flight crew and assault and battery for slapping a male flight attendant. A shootout in Springfield on Saturday left a city police officer and a state trooper shot and a third person dead. The incident began as a robbery/double shooting at Bill Brown's House of Beauty at 946 State Street. more ›

Ronald P. McGinn, Jr., a guard at MCI-Norfolk was arrested for allegedly selling heroin to inmates. He faces 20 years in jail and a $1,000,000 fine if convicted of possession of heroin with intent to distribute. The US Attorney's office said McGinn was recorded discussing his plans to smuggle drugs into the prison with an undercover agent. There are also text messages detailing the plans as well. McGinn is from Bridgewater and had about 28 grams of heroin on him when he was arrested. [Globe] more ›

A 46-year old MBTA bus driver from Brockton was arrested yesterday possesssion of cocaine with intent to distribute, Boston Police and the Suffolk County District Attorney's office said. Police recovered cash and crack cocaine from the suspect. The driver, a woman, was arrested at the Cabot bus yard while in uniform. She drove for the MBTA since 2002.     -- A man went on a daytime shooting spree in a Brockton apartment house this afternoon that killed one and left two in the hospital. The gunman fled the scene in his car after police responded to the shootings and engaged cops in a high-velocity shoot-out. The incident came to a close when the gunman's car collided with that of a passerby, ending the getaway and sending the suspect to the hospital. Despite close calls, no police were reported injured.     Three men were arrested today on charges that they set fire to the predominately black Macedonia Church in Springfield following the election victory of Barack Obama. The incident was a part of a small spate of racially-motivated crimes that broke out in isolated parts of the country on Election Day. The fire did $2 million worth of damage to the church.     The Globe reports that arson is suspected in a Springfield church fire that happened early Wednesday morning following Barack Obama's victory in the presidential election. Macedonia Church of God in Christ had been under construction and about 75% complete. The predominantly black congregation has pledged to rebuild, although neighbors had protested the initial construction of the church in a residential area. Bishop Bryant J. Robinson Jr., who heads the church, suspects the fire might have been a hate crime. more ›

    -- The Dorchester offices of ACORN, the national political organization, were found ransacked this morning. The offices, which are located on Adams St. in Fields Corner, were looted of three desktop computers as well as other equipment. Employees of the group believe that the burglary might be the result of the national political ire that presidential candidate John McCain has whipped up around ACORN, whom he has accused of possibly "destroying the fabric of our democracy" with its voter registration drives.     -- A confrontation at a Dorchester Dunkin' Donuts drive-thru turned absurd yesterday when a woman was dragged from her car and beaten, according to police. The victim had sounded a warning honk as the suspect attempted a drive-thru maneuver, authorities say, and the act had thrown the suspect into a rage. Along with an 30 year old male accomplice, the 27-year-old Dorchester woman allegedly blocked the victim in the drive-thru line, pulled her from her car, and slammed her head into the pavement.
