Bostonist isn't running for Senate. Neither is Stephen Lynch, who said there wasn't enough time to prepare for a run. Everyone else is, or may be. City Year founder Alan Khazei is apparently running. The Boston Globe said Khazei will get the nomination papers today and begin collecting signatures. Khazei had been considering running for the Senate so it's not a huge surprise that he's making it official. The idea that Celtics co-owner Steve Pagliuca, last seen trying to buy the Globe, is possibly running for the seat vacated by Ted Kennedy's death in August, comes out of half-court left field.

According to WGBH, Massachusetts Representatives Michael Capuano and Stephen Lynch will join Emily Rooney tonight on WGBH's Greater Boston at 7-7:30pm on WGBH 2. Lynch (ninth District) opposed it.
Trains are safe. That's the declaration from Michael Chertoff, head of the US Department of Homeland Security, after he took a ride on the MBTA Green Line. Perhaps malicious individuals looking to cause harm to Boston's subway system have also been thwarted by the introduction of the CharlieTicket system. If regular riders of the T, occasional patrons, and tourists are finding the new fare system a little cumbersome there maybe a built-in safety factor preventing...
It seems the U.S. Navy is a little short-handed these days for viable training grounds to simulate Iraq-like combat. According to a report in today's Herald, the Pentagon is considering the South Boston waterfront as an arena for war-game exercises later this summer. Apparently the narrow street and proximity to water makes Southie the ideal location to prepare for real danger in Fallujah or Baghdad:
Though politics in our fair city are often quite divisive, what better way is there to get political enemies to the same table than the St. Paddy's day holiday? Every year, South Boston State Senator Jack Hart sponsors a brunch on the Sunday following the holiday, which rather than bringing true unity, often takes the tone of a Friar's Club Roast. Headlined by such political notables as the sitting Governor, Attorney General, and Boston...
A conversation about baseball these days will undoubtedly involve something about this "juicing" scandal, and Bostonist ain't talkin' about these guys or this dude (he's a whole different story). Between the Balco scandal, Barry Bonds crushing home-run records, the leaked statements by Jason Giambi admitting he took steroids, and now Canseco's book it was inevitable that somewhere along the line the government would become involved. Yes, there's been much in the news, for months, abound the business that was being done within BALCO (Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative) - but that involved athletes in a wide sampling of sports. This congressional committee investigation (PDF) is directly targeted towards the steroid use specifically within our "national past-time". Being subpoenaed to testify are Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire, Jason Giambi, Sammy Sosa, Rafael Palmeiro, Frank Thomas and our own Red Sox ace Curt Schilling. Noticeably absent from this list is Mr. Balco himself, Barry Bonds — very interesting. Others who will also be there include commissioner Bud Selig, and Donald Fehr, baseball's union leader.
