The Massachusetts Congressional delegation differs on the ongoing airstrikes on Libya designed to install and enforce the no-fly zone. The United States reportedly used cruise missiles, B-2 bombers, and Navy vessels and other planes for logistical support. more ›

Bill Clinton either really likes Congressman Stephen Lynch, or he thinks Lynch has compromising pictures of him. Whatever the reason, former president Clinton is visiting South Boston Thursday to speak on Lynch's behalf at a 12:30 p.m. rally at the Ironworkers Local 7 union hall. Lynch is running to keep the Ninth Congressional District seat. One Democrat, two Republicans and an independent are also running. Lynch said of Clinton "As the ‘man from Hope' Enough of that. Please don't steal the Big Guy's lines, Lynch. more ›

  • Teens may skip school on a beautiful day and stay out all night, but it can turn into a big deal if your uncle is a Congressman. [Boston Herald]

Note to Rep. Stephen Lynch: Fox News Channel's business guy Neil Cavuto isn't interested in doing you any favors even if you voted against the historic health care reform bill that was signed by President Obama on Tuesday. Cavuto hosted Lynch on his 4 p.m. show on FNC on Thursday to delve into possible political threats levied against Lynch for voting against health care reform. Think of it as a rematch of Eric Massa vs. Glenn Beck, minus the tickle fights. more ›

When we turned on our computer yesterday and saw chat statuses like "filling out my death panel job application," we knew that the House of Representatives had passed President Barack Obama's health care reform, and there was nothing that Massachusetts's furious array of white dudes could do to stop it. Not even Tim Cahill! more ›

Bostonist isn't running for Senate. Neither is Stephen Lynch, who said there wasn't enough time to prepare for a run. Everyone else is, or may be. City Year founder Alan Khazei is apparently running. The Boston Globe said Khazei will get the nomination papers today and begin collecting signatures. Khazei had been considering running for the Senate so it's not a huge surprise that he's making it official. The idea that Celtics co-owner Steve Pagliuca, last seen trying to buy the Globe, is possibly running for the seat vacated by Ted Kennedy's death in August, comes out of half-court left field. more ›

Lynch (ninth District) opposed it. more ›

Trains are safe. That's the declaration from Michael Chertoff, head of the US Department of Homeland Security, after he took a ride on the MBTA Green Line. Perhaps malicious individuals looking to cause harm to Boston's subway system have also been thwarted by the introduction of the CharlieTicket system. If regular riders of the T, occasional patrons, and tourists are finding the new fare system a little cumbersome there maybe a built-in safety factor preventing... more ›

It seems the U.S. Navy is a little short-handed these days for viable training grounds to simulate Iraq-like combat. According to a report in today's Herald, the Pentagon is considering the South Boston waterfront as an arena for war-game exercises later this summer. Apparently the narrow street and proximity to water makes Southie the ideal location to prepare for real danger in Fallujah or Baghdad: more ›

Though politics in our fair city are often quite divisive, what better way is there to get political enemies to the same table than the St. Paddy's day holiday? Every year, South Boston State Senator Jack Hart sponsors a brunch on the Sunday following the holiday, which rather than bringing true unity, often takes the tone of a Friar's Club Roast. Headlined by such political notables as the sitting Governor, Attorney General, and Boston... more ›

A conversation about baseball these days will undoubtedly involve something about this "juicing" scandal, and Bostonist ain't talkin' about these guys or this dude (he's a whole different story). Between the Balco scandal, Barry Bonds crushing home-run records, the leaked statements by Jason Giambi admitting he took steroids, and now Canseco's book it was inevitable that somewhere along the line the government would become involved. Yes, there's been much in the news, for months, abound the business that was being done within BALCO (Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative) - but that involved athletes in a wide sampling of sports. This congressional committee investigation (PDF) is directly targeted towards the steroid use specifically within our "national past-time". Being subpoenaed to testify are Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire, Jason Giambi, Sammy Sosa, Rafael Palmeiro, Frank Thomas and our own Red Sox ace Curt Schilling. Noticeably absent from this list is Mr. Balco himself, Barry Bonds — very interesting. Others who will also be there include commissioner Bud Selig, and Donald Fehr, baseball's union leader. more ›
