We really love Dane Cook, so we were sad to find out that we missed Dane Cook Day. Apparently September 17, besides being Constitution Day (which we also kinda skipped over) and Halfway to St. Patrick's Day (which we actually did celebrate, though not with a Guinness), is now Dane Cook Day.

You can take the T to Green Street, but you can’t take your car. Well, you can take your car to the Green Street Station on the Orange Line. There’s on street parking not too far by, but please, please, don’t put your car inside the Green Street Station. Saturday was a beautiful day. We haven’t forgotten it. The sun was shining, temperatures were warm, the Sox were playing at Fenway, and cantaloupes were out at Haymarket. Flowering trees, crocus, and daffodils are good indications springtime is upon us, so is the Boston Marathon and the launching of the Swan Boats in the Public Garden. As is customary, Saturday morning Menino, wife, and grandkids took the first ride in the boats for the year. The start of spring also marks the beginning of tourist season in New England. Today’s video shows both swan boats and a tourist perspective. Local videoblogger Steve Garfield has a video on his site showing the boats being prepped for launch, we also suspect he is behind the “swanboats” Flickr tag, linked to from the official Swan Boats of Boston website.

Apparently video blogging is the hot new thing. We like video blogging we’d like to see more from the locals, we encourage folks to pick up the camera (Steve Garfield and Ravi Jain will teach ya). Creating community through vlogs is a central tenet to vlogging. Node101::Boston Media Makers meetings are working on paving streets in the new neighborhood. The group's first meeting produced ideas that people were interested in fostering, including citizen media, video...

Bostonist is a big supporter of user-created content. Every week we review local webcasts brought you you by Boston citizens, not only to entertain you but to highlight what normal people can do with a microphone or a camcorder. While we do want to empower our readers, we are also looking for new content to review and if we don't trick someone into starting a new podcast we're simply going to run out of shows to review.

If Steve Garfield is not making money off vloging he really should be since you need to go through the site with a fine tooth comb to find a day he did not put out a short video. Where does he find the time to do it all? It's even day time during the videos and last time Bostonist checked it was depressingly dark after work.

Fearing the worst, Bostonist stocked up on candles this weekend. The news that NStar workers were going approaching a deadlock in negotiations and were going on strike made us feel a little uneasy about the fate of our electricity. Reading the Boston Globe report on the crisis hasn’t calmed fears much:

NStar spokeswoman Caroline Allen said early today, "We have qualified managers and contractors ready to step in and maintain critical services for our customers. Of course, with so many of our employees not at their post, customers may notice minor inconveniences, but we'll do our best to minimize any impact."
Minor inconveniences? Isn’t that what NStar has already been delivering to Boston area customers? Ms. Allen perhaps you meant to insert a "more than" into that sentence. Over an almost 2 year period NStar has caused 80 electrical blackouts in Jamacia Plain as local blogger Steve Garfield reports in his videoblog of the NStar Community Meeting. Don’t get us wrong, Bostonist has nothing against the union. We just are weary about the length of this strike when the spokespeople are making statements that seem incongruous given the recent state of affairs. The Herald notes the union response to the claims of Allen
"If (customers) are fortunate enough not to have service interrupted, they won't notice. If they have trouble, they're in trouble," Sullivan said.
Both our favorite metro papers noted the last time NStar's union was on strike it lasted 28 days. Anyone think it's safe to make toast over an open flame?
