Yesterday's construction accident in Downtown Crossing, in which a bucket lift (also being called a crane) toppled over near the Brattle Book Shop, has proved fatal. One of the construction workers injured in the accident has died; the other is in serious condition. The workers had been inspecting a Suffolk University building. Reliable Roofing, which employed the workers, had been fined for safety reasons previously. Globe commenters speculate that wood placed underneath the machine or lack of stabilizers may have caused it to fall.
