A money-crush, at least. The Herald reports that Bay Staters gave the most money per capita to Obama's campaign of any state, at $1.583 each. Vermont and Illinois were close, with $1.580 and $1.558 per capita respectively, but nobody ponied up as much dough as we did. The Herald points out that this is a little odd, considering Obama didn't even win the primary here. But apparently we've got enough rich-folks-getting-richer who don't want a president who isn't sure how many homes he has. At least our rich people can count their summer homes on the Cape and across town. Herald commenters, unlike the rest of Massachusetts, do not have much affection for Obama, calling him a "clown" who "squats when he pees." Ah, reasoned debate.

Continuing its tradition of pukey puff pieces devoted to slavering over rich folks with ridiculous dilemmas, the Globe comes at us today with a lamentation on the difficulty of staying with friends. Rich people with summer houses, hosting their perhaps slightly less rich (they don't have their own summer homes, after all) friends, run into all sorts of trouble with towels, rugs, and even--of all things--scallions. It's enough to make you never vacation again.
Maybe this Bostonist is just jealous because she never had a summer home growing up, but the idea of having two homes--in general, and especially within a 30-minute radius--seems a little preposterous. We're all for driving less, of course, but we're not really for developments that displace wilderness and full-time residents only to stand empty much of the year (if these summer homes had full-year residents, which they don't seem to, they'd be a little more tolerable).
