It's important tonight to get to bed early and not overdo it tonight; you've got a 6 AM date with the Red Sox. We've finally more-or-less internalized the 13-hour difference between the East Coast and Japan, and we're ready to accept that the defense of the World Series title begins before sunrise tomorrow. Though we do feel sorry for Oakland fans; for them the game starts at 3.

Victoria Beckham is a style icon with Hermes bag collection that would make most women green with envy. It’s also fitting that she would make an appearance on Wednesday promoting her jeans & sunglasses collection right before her other gig that night. For those of you who don’t know, she sometimes sings with this pop group from the UK, ever hear of them? Spice something?
You probably read yesterday that Jonathan Papelbon will, in fact, be the Red Sox closer this year, and probably for years to come. Why they didn't just announce this at the beginning of camp, when we all suspected this was going to happen eventually, is beyond us. But we still love the idea of players blogging, if it means Dan Shaughnessy will fade further into irrelevance. The bad news in Fort Myers is that...
With both local winter teams off Monday, all the local attention could focus on Globe writer Ron Borges, who was benched for two months for plagiarizing a Seattle writer in his Sunday football column. (Deadspin has the passages in question.) When asked for a quote, Borges said (not really): "'Tis a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done."
On August 1, 1981 MTV started transmission as it began its illustrious incarnation as the first cable music television network. Twenty-five years later to the day we're bringing you that famous video from The Buggles that started it all. There isn't much that we can do to connect this to Boston except to note that many of us grew up with MTV as an integral part of our teen years (tomorrow be on the lookout for Hangin' Tough). Long gone seem the days when music videos dominated or even when Beavis and Butthead were broadcast without nostalgia – now its Laguna Beach and the Hills or a little Super Sweet Sixteen. "Ladies and gentlemen, rock and roll!"
Since Bostonist knows you are all gearing up for the big anniversary party tomorrow night at the Kinsale, we assume you’ll all be staying home and resting tonight…well, okay probably not, but we thought we’d do a news roundup today because hell, it’s Friday. We certainly don’t expect you to read a newspaper. Bar Brawl on Newbury Street: Bostonist has had its fleeting moments of drunkenness over on Newbury Street’s basement level bar, Daisy Buchanan’s....
After a weekend of green, beer, and basketball, Bostonist is drained. It all started for us 10 years ago when our Western Mass. roots were honored as UMass Amherst team went to the Final Four with Coach Cal. and Marcus Camby (who later cost the Final Four standing for “improper gifts” – jewelry and prostitutes). Since then we’ve faithfully filed out our brackets each season. Sometimes we pick the underdogs for an upset and sometimes we glean knowledge from those who have followed entire season. We usually only catch a dozen or so games before the Madness begins. This year seems to be a particularly bad year for our bracket. It’s not any consolation that Dick Vitale is sitting in our boat for the Final Four selections.
