General John Allen, the commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, said the Taliban insurgents responsible for shooting down the military helicopter carrying 38 American and Afghan personnel on Saturday, and killing all of them, were tracked down and killed by the U.S. and NATO on Monday in an airstrike involving at least one F-16. Taliban leader Mullah Mohibullah and the insurgent who apparently fired the rocket-propelled grenade were killed. Former Barnstable High School graduate and Navy SEAL Kevin Houston was killed on that helicopter. A memorial service for Houston is scheduled for Thursday in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at the Atlantic Shores Baptist Church. more ›

Major David L. Brodeur, 34, of Auburn was one of nine Americans shot and killed on Wednesday in Kabul by an officer in Afghanistan's Air Corps. Brodeur, a pilot in the U.S. Air Force, was one of eight soldiers killed. The ninth fatality was a civilian contractor. more ›
