-- The Bridgewater man being sought by police for the murder of his ex-wife was found dead last night, an apparent suicide. Andrew Boisvert was found hanging in an Iredell County, North Carolina rest stop. He was fleeing Friday's warrant for his arrest in the murder of Medford resident Margaret Ninos, who was found beaten to death in her home on Wednesday. A North Carolina rest stop worker discovered Boisvert's body hanging from a tree. [Globe; Herald]

080507_veritas.pngAfter much wrangling and justifiable concern, Boston has approved Harvard University's plans to build what the Allston-Brighton TAB calls a "$1 billion science complex."

--A new company, FlexPetz, will let you rent a dog for a few hours so you can enjoy canine companionship without getting up in the cold to walk the critter. Wouldn't it be great if you could just rent human companionship for a few hours? Oh, wait. That's illegal. Nevermind. [Boston Globe]

IKEA is already here, in Stoughton, but the blue-and-yellow behemoth might be moving even closer. The Somerville News reports that the Swedish store with the make-it-yourself furniture has applied to start construction in Assembly Square. The arrival of the store could mean good news (new jobs!) and bad news (ugly traffic). IKEA tries to be soothing, well-organized, and clever, but the long lines at IKEA and technical furniture difficulties tend to put individuals in a...

We're starting to think gangster-turned-fugitive Whitey Bulger is kind of like the Neti, or UFOs, or Bat Boy. He shows up when the moon aligns with Saturn or when movies about him hit the big screen. He's turned up again, this time in Italy. Someone photographed an old guy and his girlfriend, and computer software indicated that the girlfriend may have been Bulger's girlfriend. That was enough to get the Bulger Task Force to fly...

The Globe reported yesterday that wireless Internet access in Boston won't be coming form a city-funded agency but from a newly formed nonprofit organization. Papers were filed with the Commonwealth to establish "openairboston.net" a nonprofit group to bring wireless internet access to Boston. They've got a bare bones website up and running already describing the intent of the operation. The nonprofit model was selected after the Wireless Task Force submitted their report on providing wireless access city-wide in Boston. After Menino announced his plan to bring wifi city wide in early 2006 he convened the task force to create a plan to realize the goal. Months and months of debate resulted in a final report with some ideas on how to proceed.

Reports have been circulating for over a week now that James "Whitey" Bulger was spotted at a screening of The Departed playing in San Diego. An FBI agent may or may not have seen him, and the man in question may or may not have slipped onto a bus to Mexico shortly after the conclusion of the film. Investigators on the Bulger Fugitive Task Force told the Boston Globe that they can't substantiate the sighting of the FBI's #2 fugitive (just behind Bin Laden). Bostonist is more inclined agree with Richard Bankus' letter to the Herald – a movie industry stunt to boost box office revenues for The Departed. There are now two places you're guaranteed to find Whitey: the FBI's most wanted list and YouTube. Check out the latest Whitey addition below.

Poor Harvard President Larry H. Summers. After making some controversial remarks about women and their lack of mathematical and science skills on January 14, he has been closely watched by faculty, students and Boston media over the past 4 months. Well, Summers has taken a step in the right direction on Monday when he announced a $50 million dollar pledge to improve Harvard for its female population over the next 10 years. With two reports being released by Harvard's Task Force on Women Faculty and Women in Science and Engineering, many programs have been suggested to close up the male-female gap over on the Cambridge campus.
