History was made at the TD Garden last night as Ray Allen broke the NBA record for three-point field goals made in a career with two first quarter treys for a total of 2,561. He added a third three-pointer for 2,562 in his career. Allen's good fortune didn't matter as the Lakers came from behind to win 92-86.

A lot is on the line Sunday night for the Patriots regardless of who plays quarterback for the Packers - Aaron Rodgers might play or Matt Flynn might be sacrificed in his first start - or if the game is played in the snow. Neither issue really matters. No offense, Packer fans. The Pats are 11-2 with five straight wins without a turnover and has outscored their last two opponents, 81-10, and has home-field advantage there for the taking with three games left.
The Boston Celtics and the Chicago Bulls have been in overtime before. Despite leading by as much as 16 points in the third quarter, the Celtics (5-1) needed another overtime to fend off the Bulls, 110-105. Boston has won four straight.

If you were in pain watching the Sox yesterday, you weren't alone.
Besides the existential pain of watching the Sox scratch out only four hits in their 5-3 loss in Toronto, there was the more immediate pain of watching Dustin Pedroia take a Brian Tallet fastball off the knee (he stayed in the game) and watching Rocco Baldelli slide knees-first at full speed into the outfield wall (he didn't). Baldelli's exit was particularly painful, since his two-run homer in the second accounted for most of the team's offense.
We'll get to the picks and the standings in a minute. The Sox and Rays were both off last night; the Twins and White Sox both lost, so realistically, the chances of them both making a major run and the Red Sox losing the Wild Card is slim. Very slim. But let's not count any chickens yet.
"I don't really like hitting fourth," said Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia, after being moved in the lineup to cover for the ailing Kevin Youkilis. Luckily, at this point, Dustin can hit when he's hitting fourth, or eighth, or underwater, or with one leg pinned up behind his back. Dustin, to put it another way, is on fire. He went 4-for-4, again, to help the Sox batter Chicago 8-2, and now leads the AL at .327.
The bad news is, the Red Sox still face Toronto eight more times this year. The good news is, it can't get much worse than it did yesterday, when the Blue Jays enthusiastically pounded Jon Lester and scraped the Sox off their cleats, 11-0.

With all the recent sterling performances by Red Sox pitchers, for some reason they decided to try something different last night. Tim Wakefield didn't finish three innings, as he gave up homers to Craig Monroe and Adam Everett to help stake Minnesota to a 7-1 lead.
Victor Thompson of New Hampshire is a bigger Pats fan than you are. Sure, he's never actually been to a game in Foxboro, but he'd like to. But that doesn't matter.
