Last spring, we found out how Taza Chocolate is made; this spring, we found out how it tastes in different flavors. Taza hosted a tasting at Atwoods Tavern in Cambridge earlier this week, where chocolate fanatics like ourselves had the opportunity to taste flavors that ranged from star anise to salt and pepper. The all-natural fair-trade chocolate company already makes Guajillo Chili, Cinnamon, Vanilla Bean, and Salted Almond flavors, and took advantage of our collective sweet tooth (sweet teeth?) to determine what varieties they should start selling next.

Later today, 20 incredibly expensive horses will run incredibly fast for about two minutes before one of the horses becomes a household name and the rest are banished to oblivion, unless they win the Preakness or Belmont. Some Americans will use this event as an excuse to drink mint juleps; some will use it as an excuse to pretend to be experts at betting, spouting nonsense about uberfectas and the like. Anyway, if you want to celebrate this event in some way for some reason, here's how you might do that today. And after the jump, a special cocktail recipe for our personal favorite contender, Dunkirk. (I Want Revenge scratched this morning.)
Yesterday, Bostonist had the privilege of touring Taza Chocolate in Somerville a week before its official open house and tour on May 2. Company founder Alex Whitmore and his colleagues led us through a day of super sweet education, covering the chocolate-making process all the way from bean roasting to bar wrapping, at which point the wonderful Albertine Press got involved, allowing us to letterpress chocolate bar wrappers in their shop. We ate chocolate for hours and took several bars home, but still weren’t sated. We just might have to return next week for another round of stone-ground goodness.
Belgium is a beautiful country. It brings us chocolate, freedom fries, waffles, and a weird molecule sculpture. It brings us the intoxicating idea of the European Union, and the even more intoxicating beverage known as beer. We had the opportunity to savor the incredibly diverse and complex varieties of beer at Saturday’s little Belgium-in-Boston, Beer Advocate’s Belgian Beer Festival.
