A 26-year old Ashland man who planned to attack the Pentagon and Capitol building as part of a violent "jihad" against the United States was arrested today. Rezwan Ferdaus is an American citizen educated at Northeastern and he wanted to carry out an assault using a remote-controlled aircraft filled with C-4 plastic explosives. Ferdaus detailed his plan to a cooperating witness in a recorded conversation in January of 2010.

Terrorism remains a threat to the United States, according to Senator Scott Brown. On Saturday, Brown confirmed that the intelligence briefings he has received since he joined the Senate in February illustrate his statement. Brown's briefings came from his membership on the Armed Services and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs committees. He said:

Federal agents arrested Tarek Mehanna, 27, in Sudbury today on charges of conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists. Mehanna is an American-born citizen who attended the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy on Longwood Avenue in Boston, where his father is currently a faculty member. Mehanna allegedly conspired to attack a mall in order to "randomly shoot people," but he was unable to buy the weapons to carry out the attack.
