While we don’t long for the days of having a required summer reading list, Bostonist has been feeling a bit inspired to pick up a book and actually start reading something not on a computer screen. Since we’re going to be “vacationing” in the city this year, we might as well read some books that are set here in our fair state. Bostonist basked in the glow of Berklee's Performance Center last Saturday as a roster of ropeadope stars - Bobby Previte, the Charlie Hunter Trio, DJ Logic, and the Christian McBride Band - asked the musical question "What is Jazz?"
Drank too many Red Bull and Vodkas at the bar last night? Got a creative streak inspired by caffeine and taurine? Check out the Art of the Can contest display in South Boston. Bostonist is skeptical of found object art projects. We know usually that means that some artist has used trash to create works of art. After smelling the formaldehyde Damien Hirst used in the MFA exhibit Bostonist has tried to keep our nose clear of art. The Art of the Can brings world wide entries to Southie for display. Somewhat fitting is that the reused cans are being displayed in the eco-friendly environmentally sustainable Artists for Humanity EpiCenter. Susan Kaup told us that there have been 31 entries selected for display, so don’t go bringing your own creations to this show. It’s not quite clear what the bounty will be for the People’s Choice award, maybe a case of Red Bull? Another marketing wonder from the little can that brought you the Red Bull Truck handing out ice cold Bull all summer, and the Flugtag rewarding TV watchers with snippets of people more or less free falling into the water with the help of a "flying machine." Art of the Can starts Saturday, Feb. 26 and runs for a week.
