You'd think that the story of last night's Red Sox/Devil Rays series kickoff would be the glorious-yet-atypical change of character demonstrated by DR pitcher Scott Kazmir. Sure, we'll get to that, but c'mon - something huge happened. Julio Lugo safely hit the ball! And then he did it AGAIN! It had been a long, rough road for our offensively challenged shortstop - a road with 33 seemingly untravelable off-ramps along the way. Different spots in...

Yesterday the City of Boston and surrounding communities participated in their latest homeland security sponsored drill, Operation Poseidon. The details of the drill had been leaked released to the press a few weeks ago. We knew what would happen, when it would happen, and where. Local blogger Eeka took part in the drill as a volunteer victim and gives her own recount of the dayThe simulation was very poorly done. We all had name...

Tedy Bruschi announced yesterday at a press conference that he will be returning to the Patriots' practice tomorrow after getting the okay from numerous doctors. After consulting with many specialists about his physical condition and whether or not he should ever play football again, Bruschi says that he has decided to come back. This past February, #54 suffered from a stroke caused by a small hole in his heart, leaving him blind and unable to even walk. He spent months in rehabiliation and now his doctors assure us that since fixing his heart, he is all set. While he first opted out of playing in the 2005 season, Bruschi has been sitting on the Pats bench watching his team get off to a mediocre 3-3 start this year. Bruschi claims that it's not his team's injuries or playing that is getting back on the field. As quoted in the press conference: ''I'm a football player. Playing the game is the most fun thing about it. There's meetings, practices, and training sessions you have to go through, but playing football and being part of this team - this New England Patriot team - is something I feel really special about. The game. The game is what I missed."

Haven't people learned anything from the Paris Hilton sex tape? If you don't want people to be able to rewind and fastforward your sex life, then don't videotape it. And if you happen to be a minor, then you really shouldn't be doing it. Oh, and if you are a 31-year-old teacher and start having an affair with your 16-year-old student, you are just dumb to even consider videotaping it. Well, Amber Jennings, a teacher at Shepherd Hill Regional High School in Dudley teaching English, decided to get involved with a student "outside of class." The affair then progressed with sex tapes and emailing naked photos to one another. The boy's mother got a bit suspicious when she caught him chatting with Jennings online.

Not too long ago, Bostonist briefly and wrongly pointed a finger in accusation at Dennis “Stomper” Connolly in the death of a homeless man in mid-August. Today another beating, which resulted in death, has led to the arrest of a 17-year-old. Thomas Grealish, the teen, allegedly severely beat Mario Acosta, 40 and homeless, nearly to death. The injuries ultimately caused Acosta's death, and Grealish was arrested and charged with the assault. Suffolk County District Attourney is waiting for more details to come from the investigation before charging with murder.

Many buildings around the Hub are grandfathered, but those with new construction must comply with the American with Disabilities Act. The Act, signed fifteen years ago today by President Bush the elder, requires new and public facilities to be accessible by disabled persons. After spending a couple months in a wheelchair following a car accident, Bostonist became aware of all the challenges to getting that around people with disabilities face day in and day out,...

For almost two weeks Boston Herald employees have been wearing little black ribbons in a show of solidarity trying to keep their jobs. This weekend the Herald announced that they would be scraping the Barnicles off the ship in order to save some money. To hit the $7 million budget reduction the paper’s top brass proposed a one-quarter staff reduction, Bostonist has gotten word that the Newspaper Guild says agreement has been reached and a public announcement is expected soon. While we’re all trying to read the tea leaves Bostonist has a suggestion for the Herald: go free. For fifty cents we can buy the Globe, so why choose the Herald? Because of the hard hitting stories about Britney’s baby? Perhaps it’s the flashy pictures of beautiful people? Maybe it’s just the contrast of conservative viewpoints with sexy girls gone wild.

While Bostonist thought it was bit strange to see two non-Sox fans on the field that night, we will accept it if the Farrelly Brothers pull off another "wicked good" comedy. Early screenings have called their new flick better than "Something About Mary." Well, if it isn't, we'll sign up with Rich Brady.

Too bad they want to keep them all positive. Bostonist could think of few sayings to give to an ex via a Conversation heart...
