Thelma Schoonmaker will be honored with a Coolidge Award at 8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 11, at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $35 ($30 for Coolidge members). Coolidge Corner Theater will also hold a panel to discuss The Departed at 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 12. Tickets are $20 ($15 for Coolidge members). Director Martin Scorsese is a legend who finally won his long-overdue Oscar with The Departed, but would his movies be as good without...

We thought that all the movie trailer mashups we were going to see this year that had anything to do with Boston would feature Ignignokt and Err. Thankfully there's one out there making fun of Boston for being Beantown rather than our little bomb scare. The HeFarted might be immature in it's premise – but we'd argue that the fart joke is actually just timeless.

The Brattle will kick off the "Hot Fuzztival" today, Friday, March 16. To get a pass to the screening of Hot Fuzz on Sunday, March 25, you'll need to see one of the "fuzztastic" movies picked by the Hot Fuzz filmmakers. It can't be that hard, can it?

The universe of legal downloads has expanded. When we heard Amazon and TiVo were partnering on video downloads, we were pretty excited, but we were nervous about the quality of the videos and the cost of the service.

Just minutes after midnight The Departed took home two big awards. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences started handing out Oscar statues at around 8:45 pm (here on the east coast, much earlier for those watching it in Hollywood). The Departed was our local favorite and hit 4 out of 5. Alan Arkin, who won the Oscar for Actor in a Supporting Role, may have been good in Little Miss Sunshine but we've got no regrets in our unabashed support of Mark Wahlberg in his first Academy Award nomination. The film based in Massachusetts with scenes filmed around Boston took home the other four awards for which it was nominated. The Oscar went to The Departed for:
- Film Editing: Thelma Schoonmaker
- Writing (Adapted Screenplay): (the North Shore's own) William Monahan
- Directing: (eight time nominee) Martin Scorsese
- Best Picture

We're about a month away from the Dropkick Murphy's multi-night stint in the Hub for St. Patrick's Day and just a week out from The Departed DVD release (today is the release for UK, Japan, and other region 2 countries) , perhaps that's all the reason we need to put up a video. The Dropkick Murphy's "I'm Shipping up to Boston" video featuring some scenes from the film and a whole lot of Irish punk cred.

Just last week at the Golden Globes Martin Scorsese took home the award for Best Director. Hollywood buffs tell us that the Golden Globes don't match up with what can be expected when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences gives out their 79th annual statues on February 25 this year, but the nominations released yesterday show that some of the boys from the film at least get to put Oscar Nominated next to their names for the next film. Local boy, Dorchester native, Mark (y Mark) Wahlberg grabbed a spot among the contenders.

Last night the Golden Globes were awarded in California. We would have watched but 24 was on with hours 3 and 4 of season 6. If Scarlett was going to get groped again surely it'd be up on the internets in a matter of minutes (she didn't and it isn't). This morning we checked out the coverage of some of our favorite nominees. The Departed brought Southie to the big screen this year, and...

Reports have been circulating for over a week now that James "Whitey" Bulger was spotted at a screening of The Departed playing in San Diego. An FBI agent may or may not have seen him, and the man in question may or may not have slipped onto a bus to Mexico shortly after the conclusion of the film. Investigators on the Bulger Fugitive Task Force told the Boston Globe that they can't substantiate the sighting of the FBI's #2 fugitive (just behind Bin Laden). Bostonist is more inclined agree with Richard Bankus' letter to the Herald – a movie industry stunt to boost box office revenues for The Departed. There are now two places you're guaranteed to find Whitey: the FBI's most wanted list and YouTube. Check out the latest Whitey addition below.

It's finally here. The feature film that brought traffic snarls and gaping tourists and residents to scene location across the Hub is finally hitting theaters today. The Departed opens nationwide tonight. They didn't have the premier in Boston as was originally planned – instead NYC got the red carpet for the movie. A film by Scorsese with a fair amount of star power is the recipe for a flash forward this week – we'll be watching next year when the Oscar nominations come out for this year's films. Posted below you'll find the trailer. If you can't make it to the theater this weekend we're pretty sure you can already grab a cam version of the movie from any number of torrent sites out there. Not that we would know anything about downloading movies.

In a world where there's nothing to do but watch movies. In a city full of theaters, museums, and libraries. One moviegoer who can be in three places at once. Friday 10/06 Jesus Camp Ted Haggard, megapastor of Colorado Springs' New Life megachurch, has megacondemned this unflinching documentary (horror movie, for Cantabrigians), possibly because pentecostalism could freak out potential megachurchgoers, or possibly because Ted Haggard is in it and he comes off as megacreepy. Opening...

When the cast and crew of the latest Scorsese flick, "The Departed" descended on Boston last year, Bostonist was excited to see some real movie stars film in the real streets of Boston (and not Toronto, Vancouver, or any other more affordable Canadian city). Unfortunately, they were only here about a month before heading down to New York City to use it as the backdrop for what is supposed to be an entire story set in Southie. We had to be happy with our fleeting glimpses of Leo, Matt, and Jack in the Herald's Inside Track every day since we knew that was all we were going to get.

Sitting through two minutes and thirty seconds of a trailer can sometimes be painful. The trailer is for The Departed, which spent about a month last year filming exterior shots in town, had us watching closely and hitting repeat for the places we know. Zakim, as the seemingly new icon, makes an appearance. The gold dome of the State House can be seen through a couple of office windows. Chinatown looks amazingly like a fantastic destination,...

Bostonist loves the Inside Track ladies at the Herald. They’ve got their finger on the tiny trickle of celebrity and athlete gossip coming from the Hub. As was pointed out earlier this year, they were the only ones who could keep track of The Departed. But this morning they’re knocking on the Internet and Bosonist’s “Weather or Not” man Todd Gross. Set to make an appearance this morning on WAAF, before Todd went live, the...

Boston has become home to some Hollywood stars for a few weeks as director Martin Scorsese's new film, "The Departed," finally began filming. This movie is a remake of the 2002 Hong Kong film, "Infernal Affairs," and will feature some big Hollywood talent. IMDB describes it in the following blurb: "The story, set in Boston, revolves around a gangster (Matt Damon) who infiltrates the police department and a cop (Leonardo DiCaprio) who infiltrates the gangs....

Also, Bostonist would like to encourage you to check out the interview with Darci Kittenpants over at our sister page Gothamist. Why? Fun fact time: The film that Darci produced, To Life! was filmed in late 2003 in Sharon, Massachusetts. And she's also worked with Red Bucket Films, who include in their ranks two Boston University students.
