On a porch on a breezy courtyard at Allston's Church of Saints Luke and Margaret, Travis Kelley of Roslindale draws a chart on a large piece of paper. Fighting the wind, Kelley writes down the column heads "name," "beginning word count," "goal," and "final word count." more ›

Deval's hours old administration has stepped up and already thrown the switch quick putting the updated website live. It has only been a matter of hours since the Patrick administration has officially been the "Patrick administration" and the mass.gov website is dripping with the new governor and lieutenant governor's names. The top news story on mass.gov is an announcement of the inauguration providing a link to the new page devoted to Patrick/Murray, no longer Romney/Healey. Changing over the names emblazoned on fixtures is one of the things we're always curious about. If Menino is ever voted out of office how long will it take to remove his name from all of those signs and websites it adorns – he's even got a placard on the Zamboni that smoothes the ice on the Frog Pond. One thing that can be done quickly these days is changing the name on a website. Patrick's team has done just that. more ›

Exploit Boston has toyed with the format of Game Night they began collecting games to play. It was in Ball Square for a little while, The Paradise Lounge on occasion, then camped out at Common Ground in Allston for a while. But the Common Ground just didn't seem to be the right fit for Game Night. So Sooz ventured out down Harvard Ave and found a new soul for the more-or-less monthly get together. Tonight the games will be played at Soul Fire at 182 Harvard Ave in Allston (b-line and 66 bus accessible) for the second month in a row (and it could be the new home). Last month was a full house in the new venue. more ›

The grants would provide Microsoft's advanced software-writing and Web-building technology to students across the state. Last year there had been much chatter about abandoning any format that did not comply... more ›

A good friend of Bostonist was moving back to the middle of the country. He was looking for a place to live, and for financial reasons looking for a roommate. We suggested craigslist. But our friend was out of luck. Craigslist had yet to set up shop in the small city where he would be attending law school. He was dumbfounded. How was he going to find a roommate? Perhaps he could pick up a paper and check the classifieds. Print classifieds, our older readers may recall, were the precursor to craigslist postings. With the popularity of community internet sites and services like craigslist some have now forgotten what services print media is in business to provide. Some credit internet pioneers for innovative takes on technology, others blame print media for not figuring out how to translate established name and authority into online success. more ›

If you are feeling a bit adventurous cinematically and would like to take a break from the summer “blockbusters” (you know, “Wedding Crashers” and “The 40-year-old Virgin”), consider making your way out to the Coolidge Corner Theatre (a Bostonist favorite) next Tuesday, August 30, for “The Best of Open Screen” in celebration of the one-year anniversary of Open Screen. more ›
