Bostonist reader Erik, a.k.a. The French Guy, sent us this neat picture of the Fort Point Channel. We love the perspective of the shot and the little bit of snow covered train track in the bottom right hand corner makes the shot.

The Brattle will kick off the "Hot Fuzztival" today, Friday, March 16. To get a pass to the screening of Hot Fuzz on Sunday, March 25, you'll need to see one of the "fuzztastic" movies picked by the Hot Fuzz filmmakers. It can't be that hard, can it?
While the world readies for the final match of the FIFA World Cup, Boston gets ready to watch it. The French and Italians will match up on Sunday afternoon – and everyone has an opinion on where the best place to watch the game will be. Mayor Menino has sanctioned a World Cup Party of sorts on City Hall Plaza this Sunday. A big screen broadcast of the match will have capacity to hold up...
Harvard Square is hosting the Arts First/Mayfair Festival, while Somerville steps up with a massive collection of Open Studios. Who will win in a battle that pits aesthetes against…more aesthetes? Of course Bostonist will be in both places to observe the battle for best arts fair. Here’s a preview.

With the slogan “A Great Reason to Bounce Around Ball Square”, the breakfast/lunch spot Soundbites is definitely a place that Bostonist will pop into again after stopping in for breakfast this past week. Now you all know that we don’t brunch at Henrietta’s Table, but Bostonist does love its inexpensive, low frills restaurants and Soundbites definitely falls into this category. Located at 708 Broadway and Zagat rated of course, Soundbites starts all customers off on the right foot by offering a “get your own beverage” area, which means you can fill and refill your own coffee, juices, water, etc. at your leisure. (One of Bostonist’s biggest breakfast peeves is when you are left waiting for that much-needed second cup of coffee. This is never an issue at Soundbites.) Once you get yourself settled with that coffee, someone will come by and get your order, which you better have ready. The Zagat guide (and friends of Bostonist’s) did mention a “soup Nazi” experience on the weekends when they get you in and get you out pretty damn fast. They have no qualms about asking you to finish up when there are people waiting outside for a table. (There’s even a sign announcing it when you first walk in, which is displayed proudly next to a photo of Rosie O’Donnell’s visit.) Super sweet service they might lack, but Bostonist was there during the week and we were allowed to sit and take in the “ambience” of it all.
Bostonist won't fall into the trap of trying to describe indie music with words. Abandon the description and get your tail feather on over to T.T. the Bear's Place tonight and shake it at a show featuring French Kicks. They're headliners now. "Trial of the Century" released last spring propelled them to the top of the docket. Once upon a time, like sometime last year, they only garnered second or third billing. Then the music media machine noticed that people having a lot of fun listening to this quartet. French Kicks are in good company; the Walkmen share their label, Guided by Voices (among others) share their producer. That is not to say they sound like those bands, but greatness loves company. The new standard of indie; not punk, not emo, maybe new rock, and good music pushes French Kicks into 2005 on a high note. If there is one good reason to go to Austin, Texas it is South by SouthWest, SXSW as the cool kids call it. The French Kicks jump the New England ship in March to make it down to the annual music festival. Bostonist hopes that they come back with some really cool collaboration that we never expected. For now, you can hear all you want over at TT’s.
