The cold weather is no excuse for you not to get out!

The Gates fever has travelled well beyond Central Park since their official opening February 12th. Plenty of Bostonians are heading south to see them over the long weekend. One Somerville residence, however, has taken matters into its own hands. The Somerville Gates website shows how several rooms have been infested with mini gates crafted by "Hargo". The 3.5 inches orange replicas seemed to be well-received by the owner's adorable cat. The site also gives a handy guide to the differences between Christo's and Hargo's Gates, including a price comparison- $29 million vs. $3.50.

Massachusetts was the foundation, in a way, for the Gates installation that opened up in New York City’s Central Park this weekend. CC Lewis of Springfield, Ma. created the bases to which the Gates were attached. You may have seen them; the bases were widely photographed running up to the opening of the installation, complete with the orange markers on each side. The installation by Christo and Jeanne-Claude is expected to draw over 200,000 visitors. Bostonist plans to make the trip to see The Gates for ourselves, gothamist tells us that it’s a sight to be seen. Massachusetts can claim some small role in the fabrication of this massive art installation though The Gates have seen worldwide cooperation with the cloth made in Germany and the plastic stands (that actually create a gate) were molded in upstate New York. Watch the news, the web, and the billowing saffron cloth for more information.
