Boston Magazine had an exclusive in which they busted Boston Herald employees stealing dailies The Metro and Boston NOW from newspaper stands. While the Herald thinks its being all sneaky and undermining (though they are denying Boston Magazine's report), they obviously haven't realized that the free dailies have a fertile quality. They multiply, breeding all day long, piling up on the MBTA train seats, stuffing the canvas bags of commuters, and, by the end of...

Bostonist wonders if we’re the only one that caught the Metro’s mistake in yesterday’s edition. Ok, ok, one of the errors in yesterday's edition – the free daily contains almost as many problems as you'll find on this site. Yesterday on page 2, the headline in the right-hand column reads "Snelgrove remembered at Northeastern commencement". The article, however, tells us about how Victoria Snelgrove, the Emerson student fatally shot (with a "less lethal" pepper pellet)...

Mixed reports of the efficacy of yesterday’s rallys, protests, and boycotts are coming across the wire. Whether or not you think that yesterday’s “Day Without Immigrants” was a successful stand of solidarity makes no difference when you watch the following video. Bostonist takes it as a glimpse into other culture, cinematically. The Metro Manila Film Festival tapped the movie, Once in a Blue Moon, to be one of the Magic 7 – we’re not up on the particulars of the festival, but from what we can find it’s akin to a best of list. The story opens here with an elderly Filipina immigrant in Boston (see the relevance) trying to find her long-lost love who she believes still lives in the homeland. She’s writing to every man in the Philippines named Manuel Pineda wondering if he’s the one…the copyright police haven’t pulled this foreign flick off of YouTube yet so you can catch the subtitled version in 11 installments beginning with the opening, from a quiet Boston home.

A while back the Metro ran a set of ads calling for advertisers to buy into a new "Uncovered" section. Apparently it was coming August 3. Bostonist was curious. The Corporate Headquarters has mentioned the collaboration back in June. Last Wednesday the Metro was scoured, front to back, on the ride from Ruggles to Mass Ave on the Orange Line. Any evidence of Uncovered? Nope. Explanation: Postponed. Bostonist has been moaning about the stake the...

Everyone in Boston has seemingly fallen in love with the tabloid. The Herald—classic tabloid, The (Weekly) Dig—stapled, redesigned tabloid, The Metro—free tabloid, The Phoenix—booted the fold tabloid. The Boston Globe goes tabloid today with the launch of their new six times weekly (Mon-Sat) feature "Sidekick." Unlike the recent redesign over at the Phoenix, the Boston Globe will still fold twice, horizontal and vertical rise will be creased. James Reed will be editing Sidekick, which...

Bostonist owes apologies to both the venerable bastion of journalism The Metro and the lovely Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Bostonist got the new wave band confused with Get Him Eat Him. Bostonist averages four hours of sleep a night due to circumstance. Bostonist doesn't recommend it because it makes you stupid and you easily confuse monosyllabic bands with funny names. So Saturday night, May 28th, The Plan at Great Scott will feature hottie...
