Tilly and the Wall with The Ruby Suns, Big Digits July 31, 8pm, 18+, $15 The Paradise [Tix] Tilly and the Wall may be infamous for having a tap dancer instead of drums, but there's much more to this band than that gimmick. The members create truly fun, danceable indie-pop enhanced by multiple instruments and extensive harmonizing. Even the most unhip individual can't help but "tap" (har har) a foot to the beat. Named......

FNX has been on a roll lately, hosting two of the biggest indie bands on the scene right now, Band of Horses and Vampire Weekend. Both bands have a reputation for appealing to a hipster crowd, and while tight jeans, ironic T-shirts, and beards (oh-so many beards) were indeed prevalent at both shows, the main focus has been on the unique sound of both acts. Band of Horses was one of the recently affected......

Bostonist didn't suspect at the time that Rhett Miller's Saturday show would be the weekend's high point, but it would have been a night well spent despite whatever happened on Sunday. The Old 97s gained national attention around the time of the "No Depression" Americana/alt-country scene, which was spearheaded by Uncle Tupelo and which also launched the career of Ryan Adams in Whiskeytown. Hailing from Dallas, Old 97s definitely have a helping of twang......

Music --In a show rescheduled from September, Blonde Redhead will provide art-damage rock, and maybe some literal damage. Really. The last time Bostonist saw this band, they were crashing into each other onstage. DCist spoke to Kazu Makino about their album's name (23) and a few other things. The Paradise Rock Club, 7:00 pm, $20. --Mission of Burma will, appropriately enough, play to raise money for the US Campaign for Burma at Great Scott at......

Music Rodfest is held each year to support the Greg "Rodney" Moynahan Memorial Scholarship. Moynahan, a musician who used to host "Rodfests" to celebrate his birthday, died in a car crash in 2004. Kier Byrnes, Moynahan's cousin and a member of Three Day Threshold, has continued the "Rodfest" tradition, and the money goes to Moynahan's alma mater, Stonehill College. Bands this year include Three Day Threshold, Girls Guns & Glory, Rogue Heroes, Cassavetes, and the......

Music The stove, the stove, the stove is on fire. But Bostonist will brave the heat as Theo Epstein, Peter Gammons, and friends rock for Hot Stove, Cool Music--keep an eye out for a review of the show. The Paradise, 8:00 pm, $40. Television Only one good thing came from this writers' strike--and that's the return of American Gladiators. LAist sat in on a taping and had this to say: "Original Gladiators: no water. New......

--The Office of Health and Human Services has allowed the Judge Rotenberg Educational Center to use skin-shock treatments for another year, even after the incident in which a prank caller caused staff members to shock two of the center's residents. There must be calm before the storm this week. We can only imagine that our favorite local folks are saving up their energy so they can rock it big into the new year. There are certainly a few great shows on this week's agenda, don't get us wrong. But since we have a minute to take a moment to look at Gridskipper's post they tacked to the bathroom wall last week: "The Mighty Mighty......

Exploit Boston has toyed with the format of Game Night they began collecting games to play. It was in Ball Square for a little while, The Paradise Lounge on occasion, then camped out at Common Ground in Allston for a while. But the Common Ground just didn't seem to be the right fit for Game Night. So Sooz ventured out down Harvard Ave and found a new soul for the more-or-less monthly get together. Tonight......

Apparently we're supposed to go to work this week. It's the first full week in July. We're not counting last week – there was enough time spent on various roof decks that it can't be called anything but lazy. This week the grind is back, but the music isn't taking a break. An eclectic mix make up this week's picks from indie rock to Elvis Costello to the Boston Typewriter Orchestra, they're not playing......

For those who were looking, British rockers Bloc Party could be spotted on Landsdowne St. this past September. For those with great foresight, the foursome could be found down Comm Ave. in BU’s backyard months earlier. And for those who missed them altogether in 2005, an early DVD release will hold us over until a new album draws them back across the Atlantic. Within six months, Bloc Party graduated from The Paradise to The Avalon......
