Bukowski Tavern, Harpoon, and The Weekly Dig have teamed up again for the “Pint and Pen” writing contest. The premise is simple: write a short-short story between 500 and 750 words long. The harder part is competing against dozens of other word lovers who revel in the romantic notion of being a hard-drinking genius of letters.

Everyone wants the best. Everyone promises nothing but the best. Few times in life do you ever get the best of anything. That is why we’re taking particular notice of this year’s Best Of lists. Many of the items posted on BPDNews don't make it into the local papers – but a regular read will give you a jump on the morning paper when you read it first blog-style.

Yes free. Yes, the same Walkmen who sold out the Middle East a month ago. Just get your act together and your internet-wandering backside over to this Filter link and RSVP. Oh, and don’t stop too many times along the way over to the Cylorama, because spots are limited, and because Boston’s own DJ Carbo (a favorite to any Great Scott regulars) will be entertaining as well.

If today’s fabulous spring weather is inspiring you to get out of the apartment tonight, then you should stop by the Sebastian Junger event we told you about yesterday…and if for some reason you are feeling very studious tonight, why not make it a double header? For those of you who are on the ball, you already bought your tickets to the Jonathan Safran Foer event at the Coolidge Corner Theater in Brookline. After this...
