--A Brazilian doctor pled guilty today of manslaughter after allegedly killing a woman in a botched liposuction surgery that took place in a Framingham house in 2006. However, the judge has rejected the guilty plea. [WBZ] more ›

Did we ever get a wake-up call. Boston.com, the website for the Boston Globe has metamorphosed overnight. A little box on the right-hand side of the home page asks, "Notice anything different?" In case you didn't notice, the Globe has thrown in a letter to readers and an FAQ. The letter also mentioned what's coming--a "Things to Do" section. How that is different from the "Sidekick," the little insert that already explains things to do,... more ›

Another week, another webcast review. This week we went looking for a webcast that focused on giving us the lowdown on all the cool, hip things to do in Beantown. Sure, we have our finger on the pulse of Boston. Sure, we already know all the cool places to be each week. But, we do these reviews as a service to our loyal readers and not as a selfish endeavor. Boston Union's Dirty Water describes itself as a weekly Boston music and events calendar and that seemed to be exactly what Bostonist was looking for. more ›

Bostonist has known since college (and repeatedly confirmed at our first office job) that no Internet-researched and keyboard-typed task can be completed without a healthy dose of procrastination. There are lots of very important things to do before you start that pending assignment. You need to check your e-mail (all active accounts), Facebook, myspace, weather forecast, local news, and of course Bostonist.com. One Internet destination that has been dear to our hearts throughout our desk-bound years is www.explodingdog.com. Initially started as a joke by creator Sam Brown, the site has blown up in the past five years and now is expanding into books and art gallery shows. Bostonist ran out of archived illustrations to laugh over during our 9-5 so we e-mailed Sam Brown for an interview to get more information on his explodingdog world. Read on to learn more about this hilarious site, as well as a very disturbing story from his time in Boston. more ›

While perusing this week's issue of the Boston Phoenix we came across an ad for Old School Prom on the back page. It featured a young woman in yellow strapless prom dress, updo, and attitude-full look holding a massive mirror with the words "Now who's the fairest of them all?" written on it (as if to appeal to all the 'ugly duckings' out there who want to set the record straight). The details were... more ›

When you listen to the commanding words of Bostonist and you subscribe to a podcast we expect you to listen to everything they put out. Few times do podcasts like Open Source come around that put out so much content that even we can't keep up. Hosted by Christopher Lydon and produced by WGBH this is actually a real radio show that is also provided on the web. more ›

Back in elementary school Bostonist couldn’t wait for recess to begin and the big red rubber ball to be rolled our way. For the past two summers adults around Boston have been playing that favorite childhood game, Kickball. The World Adult Kickball Association (WAKA), which began with a couple of guys in a bar in Washington, DC, has spread its tentacles all over the country. A Somerville Division (the Massachusetts Minutemen) and the Boston Division (Massachusetts Ironsides) have wrapped up play for the Summer Season. But the Social/Athletic fun doesn’t end with the end of Summer. This year WAKA teams in the Bay State will be playing “fall ball.” Somerville rolls the ball on Wednesday and Thursday nights (under lights!), Boston plays on Sunday afternoons. more ›

Also, since you (and Target) love The Hold Steady, may Bostonist make a gentle reminder to pick up tickets to their upcoming September TT's show? Question: are The Hold Steady the rockingest band fronted by a BC grad? Answer: Bostonist doesn't know, but Bostonist does know that you can go to TT's after 6 and pick up tickets without a service charge, and you should go there soon to get your Hold Steady tickets and (since you love hype) your Clap Your Hands Say Yeah tickets. (Bostonist still can't believe that the latter was confused with Get Him Eat Him in an earlier post, but then again, there's really a spate of mono-syllabic bands ordering you to do stuff right now.) Do it before the students come back, with their disposable income et al. more ›

While expecting to find lots of older women lunching along side Renoirs and Monets, the Museum was packed with lots of middle-aged men and their wives and/or kids; there are two male-friendly exhibits currently drawing them into the MFA. more ›
