Comedian Bill Burr came back to his hometown on September 23rd to do 2 nights of sold out shows at the Wilbur Theatre but he gave us some time to do a Tour of Boston, driving by old haunts and places where he first performed. Check out the video!

As a 2nd time rider in the Pan Mass Challenge I was fortunate enough to make it to a select group of cyclists that rode with Lance Armstrong for many miles last Saturday. Armstrong's appearance in the PMC inspired everyone involved - we hope he comes back again.

We interviewed Boston-bred comedian Nick DiPaolo at Comix at Foxwoods where he recorded his recent Showtime special and DVD "Nick DiPaolo: Raw Nerve." DiPaolo is an unfettered and outspoken guy who is sometimes accused of being a political comic which he really isn't when you look at his material. Read our interview to get a glimpse of where he's coming from.

The next four weeks features 2 amazing regional music (and comedy) festivals that are worth the short road trip. This weekend it's B.O.M.B. Fest in Hartford with Weezer and Snoop Dogg plus plenty of other cool bands and in late June it's Wilco's Solid Sound Festival featuring music, comedy, and art at MassMoCA in North Adams.
Marc Maron, comedian, radio & TV broadcaster, and now lauded podcaster will be appearing in the region, doing a run of shows from June 2nd through the 4th at Comix at Foxwoods. If you remember when Maron spent a lot of time in Boston or have been a subscriber to his WTFpod, or have simply only read the NY Times profile of him, here's your chance to see him live.

oston-bred comedians Bill Burr and Robert Kelly teamed up with fellow comedian and friend Joe DeRosa to make their own self-produced short film, Cheat, which premiered at last week's prestigious 2011 Tribeca Film Festival. We went to a screening in NY and talked to the filmmakers about their project.
Boston-bred comedian Nick Di Paolo has a special on Showtime tomorrow night with the album dropping on Monday. His special was recorded at Comix at Foxwoods in less than 2 weeks - it's like the harmonic convergence of all things Nick Di Paolo.
Tim Conway & Friends perform at the Wilbur Theatre this Sunday at 4pm. We managed to have a quick phone conversation with Mr. Conway who gave us the background on his current show as well as classic bits from "The Carol Burnett" show that earned him 6 Emmys and more.
Boston-bred comedian Bill Burr gave us another incredible video tour of Los Angeles! This time it's the Hollywood Hills and Hollywood Boulevard. Burr plays Foxwoods on April 30th but if you can't get tickets to that, he will be coming to Boston on September 23 to play the Wilbur Theatre for a must-see show.
Last weekend Chris Franjola of "Chelsea Lately" and "After Lately" played Comix at Foxwoods and we interviewed him for you. Next weekend Josh Wolf and Jen Kirkman of "Chelsea Lately" will also be at Comix but Josh will be back in May with Chelsea Handler in Boston to kick off her nationwide tour. Several other comedians from the show will also be making appearances in the area over the next few months.

A few weeks ago we reviewed multi-Emmy winning TV writer, stand-up comedian, and radio host Greg Fitzsimmons' memoir Dear Mrs. Fitzsimmons: Tales of Redemption from an Irish Mailbox, a book we thoroughly recommend you check out now that you've received all those great book store gift cards for Christmas, etc. We interviewed Fitzsimmons about his book and his start in comedy in the Boston of the late 1980s and early 1990s so check out the video. Fitzsimmons will be performing at the Wilbur Theatre on January 29th at 7pm.
We were fortunate to go the the Macallan Master Class Scotch tasting event a couple weeks ago at the Royale. With our bitterly cold weather, the thought of a few drams of premium single malt Scotch warming our bones had us humming as we ascended the stairs to the showroom of the venue. Brand ambassador Graeme Russell took us through tastings of 8, 21, 25, and 30 year-old editions (and then some) of the famous highland Scotch whisky. It was both educational and entertaining as Graeme showed the group of about 80 Scotch enthusiasts films about how the Macallan is made and peppered the tasting with a banter that verged on stand-up comedy.
Multi-Emmy Award winning Greg Fitzsimmons has been a huge success on television, radio, and stand-up but he got his start while he was a student at Boston University. After graduating he got his comedy chops in the many clubs that Boston had in the late 1980s with contemporaries like Sarah Silverman and Louis C.K. This era is just part of Fitzsimmons new memoir, "Dear Mrs. Fitzsimmons: Tales of Redemption from an Irish Mailbox" which we review here. Fitzsimmons will be coming to Boston on January 29th for a show at the Wilbur Theatre.
"Saturday Night Live" alumnus Rob Schneider has been working on a new stand-up show for the past year and will be bringing his show to the Hu Ke Lau in Chicopee this Friday (December 3rd) and the Wilbur Theatre on Saturday (December 4th) for multiple shows. Although Schneider has been working primarily in film for the past 10 years or so, he was inspired to revisit his standup comedy roots after witnessing George Carlin's final stage appearance in 2008 and after hanging out with friend and fellow "SNL" co-star Chris Rock who urged him to get back on stage. Schneider shared his unique brand of humor and progressive views in our in-depth interview.
Several weeks ago we had the chance to speak with Donal Logue about his new FX series "Terriers" for the above video and we also spoke to his co-star Michael Raymond-James (formerly Rene Lenier of HBO's "True Blood"). Now you have the chance to go to a screening of "Terriers" and ask these two fantastic actors your own questions about one of the most original new shows of the season.
We haven't had a chance to see Jim Gaffigan perform locally since we reported on his 2008 shows at the Berklee Performance Center. We're happy to have another chance to see him at the Wang Theatre on Saturday, November 13 at 7pm. Gaffigan is perfecting a whole new hour+ of material that he will be recording next year sometime so you will have a chance to see this show long before the masses see any kind of broadcast of it.
