Although Jay Mohr is currently starring on CBS' "Gary Unmarried" (potential Emmy nomination for him!) on Wednesday's at 8:30pm, you might know him from about a million other things: his seasons on "Saturday Night Live", his roles on Jerry Maguire and Picture Perfect and other movies, his ground-breaking TV series "Action", and his involvement with sports shows like "Mohr Sports", Fox Sports Net's "Beyond the Glory", and "The Jim Rome Show". more ›

The Boston International Film Festival has a ton of offerings in its 6 sessions today and you should definitely look them all over. One of them, in Session 37, caught our eye as it is edited by two-time Academy Award® winner Pietro Scalia (“JFK,” “Black Hawk Down”): 40 Years of Silence: An Indonesian Tragedy, which screens at 6pm. more ›

With the economic slowdown projected to worsen this year, Boston-Metro and New England will not be immune. That's why we think it's important to note a conference like the MarketingProfs Business-to-Business Forum being held at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel on June 8th and 9th. more ›

Today marks the first post by Boston-bred comedian Bill Burr for the NHL's Boston Bruins. We've talked to Bill many times and he even took Bostonist on a video tour of Hollywood back in January. In between his stand-up schedule, Burr has managed to do a weekly podcast for years and has now been picked by the Bruins as their celebrity blogger. Burr is a dedicated Boston sports fan, and an even more dedicated Bruins fan so we commend them on their choice as blogger where he will be contributing at least weekly through the playoffs and, we hope, beyond. more ›

The infamously masked electronica duo otherwise known as The Bloody Beetroots will be playing a pseudo-secret show at Bill's Bar tonight with doors opening at 10pm . Don't look for the Beetroots on Bill's website because they aren't there. We suggest getting tickets for a show that is sure to get everyone stomping. more ›

Are you a fan of Demetri Martin, person? Perhaps you only just got acquainted with him via his new Comedy Central series, "Important Things with Demetri Martin", or caught a glimpse of him doing a late night segment or as "Youth Correspondent" on "The Daily Show". At any rate, enough Bostonians like him enough to have completely sold out all three of his shows: one on Thursday and two on Friday at The Wilbur Theater. more ›

Jimmy Fallon's show at The Wilbur tomorrow night has been sold out for weeks but there's still a chance to get in. more ›

Well we were there and we couldn't really believe it happened. As part of a national press tour, evangelists from Google provided an informal meetup at Cambridge's Enormous Room. I was incredulous as I signed up for the event at Meetup.com - "hey wait a minute", I thought, as I entered my info, "this isn't a Google product or portal, WTF?" more ›

Last week Jamie Kennedy confirmed that he is, in fact, in a relationship with fellow "Ghost Whisperer" co-star, Jennifer Love Hewitt. The thing is, Kennedy will be performing his stand-up act at The Wilbur a week from today - will Hewitt be tagging along with him to Boston? more ›

Comedian Mitch Fatel can't wait to come to Boston after receiving a great reception at his first foray into town last year. This time Fatel will be taking over the beautiful Wilbur Theatre for two shows this Saturday night (7:00pm & 9:45pm). You've had a chance to see Fatel on all the late night shows, Conan, Letterman, Leno, and has had a special on Comedy Central, but we particularly have loved his appearances on "Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist". more ›

Kenny Johnson has been in a ton of movies and TV shows over the last couple decades but he's currently best known for his roles as Detective Curtis 'Lemonhead' Lemansky in FX's "The Shield" and as Detective Hamilton 'Ham' Dewey in TNT's "Saving Grace". We were pleased to see Johnson reappear on TV in "Saving Grace" almost immediately after 'Lem' was dramatically assassinated by 'Shane' in "The Shield" and we've been more than pleasantly surprised by the quality of the show, its great writing, and superb performances. more ›

Comedian Jamie Sneider grew up in Boston Metro-West before heading to NYU, improv, and comedy writing. She recently relocated to Los Angeles, from where she writes her Reluctantly Moving to LA blog. We talked to Sneider and told her about our ice storms and she remarked that at least LA "has amazingly consistent warm weather, it's weird" but that she hears about the New England weather from her family every time she calls home. Speaking of our recent weather, she would not have been able to shoot a single scene from her 2009 "Year of the Jewish Woman" calendar in the kind of cold and wind that knocked out power for hundred of thousands. more ›

On Monday night at 8:00pm, December 15th, you can see comedian Steven Wright receive the honor of being the first inductee of The Boston Comedy Hall of Fame. The event will take place at Showcase Live at Patriot Place in Foxborough, which is technically not in Boston, so we're hoping for some jokes about that. more ›

Comedian Rob Cantrell, a popular finalist on two seasons of NBC's "Last Comic Standing", is the ringmaster of "Rob Cantrell's Electric Study Break" at T.T. the Bears on Wednesday night, December 10th, starting at 9pm. "Electric Study Break" is going to be a fun and innovative combination of stand-up comedy, short films, and hoppin' DJ sets. The fact that this is being held at a rock club instead of a comedy club means that for $8 you get a lot of entertainment without a high door fee and a two drink minimum. more ›

We managed to get into one of comedian Jim Gaffigan's score of sold out performances this weekend at the Berklee Performance Center (pictured right, check out the "Sexy Tour" poster they had inside) and we were not disappointed. Perhaps you've seen Gaffigan's various Comedy Central Specials, his CD & DVD of "Beyond the Pale", his myriad late night TV appearances (particularly on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" where he's teamed up to form the animated superhero duo "Pale Force") or his performances on his regular TV gig (My Boys on TBS), but none of those media can equal seeing him perform in person. It's been amazing to watch Berklee add show after show this weekend and they've still completely sold out. more ›

Comedian Brian Regan makes a return to the Orpheum this Friday night. Regan has performed solo at the Orpheum in the past as well as in support of Denis Leary's charity-fest "Comics Come Home".
