The cold weather is no excuse for you not to get out!

While chants of "Fired up! Ready to go!" echoed through the World Trade Center, Massachusetts political heavy-weights rallied behind the historic presidential bid of Senator Barack Obama. Senator Kerry's introduction spoke of experience that comes from "wisdom, instinct, gut, and courage - not age" and he stated that "history gives us moments and we must decide what to do with them." When Senator Obama finally took the stage he quoted Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in saying that "the fierce urgency of now" is what has led him to run for the presidency. Judging from the reaction of the 8,000 strong in attendance, Massachusetts is ready to grasp the moment and put their faith in Senator Obama.

People, so many people, mostly young people, people everywhere. There were so many people waiting in line for Senator Barack Obama's rally at the Seaport World Trade Center last night that the campaign turned the queue into a phone bank, handing out lists of voters and asking people to use their cell phones to plead for support. There were so many people waiting in the cold that a nearby Dunkin' Donuts had to prematurely close its doors after it sold every ounce of coffee in stock. So many people.

Is it even an argument at this point? Boston's Mayor Menino caused the Patriots' loss by planning the city's victory party a little too early and much too transparently. Last Wednesday, well before the unthinkable happened, the Herald was already proclaiming, "Tommy, you might as well have suited up for the hated Giants."

Meet more of Bostonist's new writers! Dale Cruse, of Drinks Are On Me, is launching a weekly drinks column for Bostonist that will appear on Wednesdays. Bostonist loves his site, which tracks food and wine trends, and is thrilled that he's joining the team.

This week is officially Bike Week. Regular commuters, part time enthusiasts, friends, and allies of bikers will be donning their helmets (please put on your helmet) and taking to the streets to celebrate a great form of human powered transportation. While many events take place from Boston to NoHo we're focusing our attention on those happening close to home. Free biker appreciation breakfasts and group rides have been organized. Check out the full listing at...

Even though we are way way past school age, we still get a little melancholy at the close of summer. Fortunately, our friends across the -ist network know that the shenanigans don't need to end just because the big yellow buses are back on the roads. So, grab your sunscreen and your favorite hangover cure, as we take a tour of end of summer fun from -ist cities all over the damn place.

If you happen to be near the World Trade Center Wednesday or Thursday morning, you will likely see a mass of clean-cut but burned-out-looking folks in their mid-twenties clutching clear, one-gallon Ziploc bags and looking nervous. These are the foolish youngsters who have shelled out $815 (!) for the privilege of taking the Massachusetts Bar Examination, all of whom are motivated, Bostonist is sure, by a heartfelt desire to better the Commonwealth, lack of fiscal...

While expecting to find lots of older women lunching along side Renoirs and Monets, the Museum was packed with lots of middle-aged men and their wives and/or kids; there are two male-friendly exhibits currently drawing them into the MFA.

Foer's here to promote his new book, Extrememly Loud And Incredibly Close. It's the story of a precocious nine-year-old, Oskar Schell, an inventor dealing with the death of his father in the 9-11 attacks on the World Trade Center. Foer's been fairly ubiquitous lately, receiving both good and scathing New York Times reviews and lots of internet chatting over his talent. There's something about his early success that does piss people off, and on the other hand, there's something that's precious about his precociousness that deserves a black mark. And of course, there's the ever interesting query of "did he and his wife Nicole Krauss (and poor woman, her name is very close to one of the authors of The Nanny Diaries, Nicola Krauss, which leads to confusion!) work together on their new novels? Is she the better writer?" But any man who can write a well-recieved book that will be a film starring Frodo (although who made the poster? It's awful!) in August has Bostonist's respect and admiration.

Bostonist was startled to learn that when new connection from I-90 West to I-93 South opened this past Saturday, the Big Dig was 96% complete. The opening itself wasn't the most surprising thing (well, actually it kinda is), but more so was the fact that the with this event the Big Dig was 96% complete, and is actually slated for final completion in September.
