The intersection of Huntington Street and South Huntington in Mission Hill is dangerous at the best of times, and yesterday during rush hour it proved deadly. A cyclist attempting to pass a 39 bus on the left got caught—presumably in the E line trolley tracks—and was crushed underneath the vehicle. The cyclist, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Comments on the tragedy rehearse the familiar driver-vs.-cyclist rage war, which seems decidedly unclassy under the circumstances. [Globe]

This weekend saw two serious bicycle crashes, one of which ended in death. 22-year-old Tracy Milillo died Friday after suffering serious head trauma during an accident with a car near Coolidge Corner. Brookline police have not determined if the driver was at fault in the accident. Milillo had not been wearing a helmet. A second accident on Saturday found a BU student pinned under his bicycle after crossing in front of an oncoming B-Line trolley. Despite tramautizing b0st0n.livejournal, the cyclist sustained minor injuries.
Bostonist visited what's left of James Hook & Co. yesterday as firefighters hosed down the wreckage. The scene attracted a steady stream of visitors who stood silently, paying their respects to the Boston landmark. See our earlier post about the fire for a photo of James Hook & Co. in better days.
The fire closed the Moakley bridge, which connects South Boston to the Financial District, to vehicular traffic, causing a jumbled commute for beleaguered workers going to or from Southie.
