Driving a cab can't be easy. Everyone complains about you, you get weirdos in the back seat, it's dangerous, and sometimes people jump without paying. Add the high gas prices into the mix, and you wonder why anyone would be a cab driver. Now, cab drivers say that the gas prices are taking a huge chunk out of their take-home pay, and they want higher fares. Today, the cab drivers are going to make their......

Usually, when the infamous low-rent Fung Wah buses have an accident, it's funny. That's because no one has died. It's not funny this time. Someone died today in a Fung Wah accident in New York City. A dump truck crashed into a Fung Wah bus, which then hit a bank, killing a 57-year-old pedestrian. While you might instinctively point the finger at Fung Wah, and while we wouldn't blame you for that instinct, reports from......

An investigation of cell-phone records shows that the Green Line operator who died in the recent MBTA crash was not on her cell phone at the time of the crash. Some passengers reported that Edmonds was on her cell phone, but that may have been an assumption based on the behavior of other MBTA drivers and operators. For the record, this Bostonist has seen only one MBTA bus driver on a cell phone, but the......

At least it's a nice day out. Because you may as well not bother going into work if you commute by the red line. (Apologies to those of you who are already stuck on a train somewhere.) Turns out that an electrical fire at Porter Square disrupted Red Line service. The fire is located at Porter. The MBTA says that trains are running again, but we all know that one T delay, no matter how......

--The Herald followed up on the story that New England Patriot Nick Kaczur allegedly turned informant after getting busted with oxy. They stated the obvious--being an informant can put one in a dangerous position. [Boston Herald] --House speaker Sal DiMasi's buddy Richard Vitale has refused to attend a hearing about whether or not he was a lobbyist for the Massachusetts Association of Ticket Brokers. While all charges are alleged, thumbing one's nose at a......

How tall do you have to be to ride the Red Line again? Because you'll feel some thrills riding this particular MBTA line in the next few weeks. The Longfellow Bridge has been in a state of disrepair for some time, and authorities are considering closing the bridge during the 4th of July to prevent the teeming hordes from plunging into the water. Now, according to the Cambridge Chronicle, the Red Line trains are going......

--Investigators of the fatal Green Line D rear-end crash said they have not found evidence that driver Terrese Edmonds, who was killed, applied the brakes. [Boston Globe, Boston Herald] --Let's get this straight. Massachusetts will avoid recession. But many people will "feel like" they are in one. So that means we're in a recession, right? Just checking. [Boston Globe] --Cape Cod is mourning the loss of Genevieve, their favorite donkey. [Boston Globe] --Akshat Shekhar......

At the moment, it isn't clear that the fatal trolley accident that killed Green Line driver Terrese Edmonds had anything to do with MBTA manager Dan Grabauskas. But the spotlight is on him after so many ugly Green Line incidents, producing an article from the Herald's Dave Wedge indicating that, if Governor Deval Patrick decided he wanted to replace Grabauskas--and he might--it wouldn't be easy: For one, Grabauskas has a contract with two years left,......

--One of the survivors of the fatal rear-end Green Line D trolley collision is sharing her story of one passenger staying with her and helping her until rescuers could help free her from the train. [Boston Herald] --After lawsuits and retaliation, American Airlines will no longer charge a $2 fee for curbside check-in, AND you can actually tip the skycap if you so choose. [Boston Globe] --The Entiwistle trial is staying in Middlesex County.......

We heard from several Bostonists and saw reports about the transportation mess that ensued after the fire that broke out, causing an evacuation at Park Street and Downtown Crossing. Charlie clearly didn't have his stuff together. Here's what LyetteAnn had to say: My husband left for the bus at Kendall Station a half an hour ago and is still standing there. He got on a bus, and they told them to get off because the......

You're going to have a long trip home tonight. Trains are stuck at stations because of an electrical fire that caused evacuations at Downtown Crossing and Park Street around 5:20 tonight. The fire has been extinguished, but there is smoke in the stations. The MBTA website said that they are experiencing 10 to 15 minute delays, but they are running buses between Harvard and Broadway Stations. Regarding the 10 to 15 minute delays, that seems......

The MBTA police, whom the Globe describes as "disgruntled," have stopped cracking down on fare evaders and are shining spotlights on the more nefarious elements of society, like perverts. The MBTA police suggests they can't handle fare evaders and genuine creeps at the same time. Dan Grabauskas is upset because--well, the MBTA is so broke that it needs every last quarter from its riders. Neither side looks good in this dispute. This Bostonist would prefer......

--Green Line B train goes on a rampage! [Boston Herald, WBZ] --Remember how last week the MBTA put out an alert after a passenger became concerned about a child's welfare on the bus? And how it turns out that everything was OK? Well, the family is considering suing the MBTA. These people clearly don't realize that the MBTA is broke. [WBZ] --If they can retire, MBTA employees are taking the money and running. [Boston......

Boston-area drivers don't like rules. Boston-area pedestrians don't like rules, and the city is trying to make hay of it by upping jaywalking fines. And now it is the cyclists' turn to feel the heat. For the record, Bostonist is thoroughly pro-cyclist and supported the Bicyclist Bill of Rights, which former lieutenant governor Kerry Healey trashed as she was leaving office. So, it is with much love that Bostonist asks, why do some bicyclists think......

The condition of the Longfellow Bridge is something most Red Line riders and drivers would rather not think about as they cross the Boston-Cambridge border. If you've ever walked across it, you might have wondered if it would collapse with a mere hop, skip and jump. And it might, especially during the 4th of July. The Cambridge Chronicle just put the masses on notice: "Engineers at the Department of Conservation and Recreation, which controls the......

With all the cancellations of American Airlines flights at Logan Airport thanks to MD-80 wiring issues, it makes good sense to check online before you drive to Logan to catch a flight. Update: Per an announcement from the MBTA, the substance found on the bus was "common chalk." The bus operator has been released from the hospital. This morning, a hazmat team was called into the Haymarket T stop when a Route 111 bus driver noticed a strange powder on the dashboard of her bus at about 9:15. Traffic ugliness ensued, but things should be cleared up now. The Herald reached Joe Pesaturo, who had word on......

Recently, BoltBus announced that it would be entering the low-cost bus fray. And now another company, Megabus, would like to be at your service for your rides to New York City. While we were underwhelmed by the Herald article that suggested a plague of groping on the MBTA, the MBTA police have decided to do something about the creeps who can't keep their hands to themselves. Officers are going undercover in the hopes of snagging the baddies. We doubt they will go undercover in the same way Bubba Smith did at the beginning of Police Academy 3, but one can only hope. Of course, if you......

On Sunday afternoon, there was more than one parade making its way through the streets of Boston. Despite the typical New England March near-snowing, 37 degree conditions, around twenty of Boston Society of Spontaneity's "improveratti" gathered in tropical attire with the mission to bring their traveling beach party to the T. Beginning at the Aquarium stop with leis piled high, the BostonSOSers rode the T to Airport, where they camped out: sunning themselves, hula......

Driving through an overpass? Look to the sky, and step on it! Fox 25 had a piece today on a chunk of concrete that fell from an overpass onto Route 9. You should watch the video, as the chunk of concrete was large enough to fill a construction shovel. Luckily, the chunk fell to the side of the road, but it's easy to imagine what could have happened. While our legislators are busy talking about......
