Liquor lobbyists and business owners donated $45,000 at one fundraising bender on September 15 at Legal Seafood in Park Square for Treasurer Steve Grossman. He's raised $187,000 since he took office in January. Donors included package store proprietors, bar owners, and liquor distributors.

Tom Keane is glad there is "entertainment" to be found in the 2010 Gubernatorial campaign. Mr. Keane, Bostonist is thrilled for you. At this point, a boring candidate with a bit of competence would beat the entertainment value of the current candidates. He must love the idea of Charlie Baker dressing up as Ace Frehley of KISS. The candidates for Treasurer disagree on which state investments can be handled by local banks.

- There are four candidates for the Fourth Congressional seat. Congressman Barney Frank debated challengers Republican Sean Bielat, Independent Susan Allen and tax revolt independent Donald Jordan at Lasell College Sunday. We think they all disagree on most things.
While state Rep. Karyn E. Polito of Shrewsbury, the Republican candidate for state treasurer, was stuck in traffic, the Massachusetts House of Representatives approved a $430 million spending bill. Polito had blocked passage of the bill for five days.
State Treasurer Tim Cahill is leaving the Democratic party, step number one on the way to a possible gubernatorial run next year. Cahill's excuse for the transition is an opposition to tax and spend policy, something you'd think he might have objected to a while ago as, y'know, treasurer. Cahill had previously claimed he would run as a Democrat if he ran for governor, which already instills confidence in his integrity and ability to keep promises.
