The University of Massachusetts’ endowment grew by over 23% in the fiscal year that ended June 30 to an unprecedented $506 million as of December 31. That growth rate is nearly triple the national average according to the National Association of College and University Business Officers and Commonfund. The UMass endowment had the second highest percentage of total growth of the biggest 200 university endowments. Outgoing President Jack Wilson traced the growth to the "generosity of donors, astute investments, and campus leadership" and funds scholarships and professors. [Boston Herald]

Universities in Massachusetts are making news.
UMass-Amherst is lamenting the presence of that pesky "-Amherst" in its name. Still, we won't exactly be surprised if the university doesn't start singing that tune.
