President Obama and family arrive in Martha’s Vineyard for a well deserved vacation later today. Yes, deserved. Congress has a five week break and Obama can't get a 10-day break from D.C.? He'll be able to govern just fine. He's also not the first president to take heat for vacationing.

President Barack Obama and the First family's summer vacation plans do include Martha's Vineyard for the second consecutive year. The schedule released by the White House Friday has the Obamas visiting Massachusetts from August 19-29. Last weekend, the Obamas hiked and biked in Maine. Yesterday, we described him as "Jens Lenkman with a banjo or Peter Bjorn and John except only one person." After seeing the Tallest Man on Earth at the Brattle last night, we stand by this description, and can provide further proof of TMoE's quirkiness. Presented by World Music/CRASHarts, the show provided a nice blend of cute antics and quality music, and the Brattle proved to be a surprisingly nice setting for a show.
Although the Boston Globe breathlessly reported earlier this week that President Barack Obama would be spending the last two weeks of August on Martha's Vineyard, the MV Times writes today that they confirmed with a White House spokesperson that not only will the prez not be vacationing on the Vineyard, he won't be taking a vacation at all this summer. We guess maybe that whole "global economic crisis" is taking precedence over his tan. As the Times snarkily pointed out, the Globe story had no sources, just speculative quotes from Vineyarders, and "fueled a rumor that had been circulating on the Vineyard for weeks of an Obama vacation." Looks like the Globe was taken in by a case of Bored Locals Playing Telephone, a classic Martha's Vineyard off-season pastime.
