In an incident seemingly ripped from the legendary Saturday Night Live "Samurai Deli" skit, a Quincy man brandished a hatchet at a Subway shop in a Wal-Mart in Quincy on Friday. It wasn't a samurai sword, and he certainly wasn't John Belushi, but someone violently chopping food with a dangerous weapon reminded Bostonist of the classic SNL skit. more ›

Coming from North Adams, western Mass.'s wilderness outpost of contemporary art, the Books delivered their thoughtful concepts to the ICA on Friday night* via a Postal Service of gentle electronica and indie (soft) rock boy vocals. Nick Zammuto and Paul de Jong also brought several closets' worth of tightly-edited found footage to match their pop musique concrète. A mood of inexplicable optimism pervaded, in the split-screen video of animals stampeding forth into an avant-garde National Geographic documentary, in the birdsong stitched together into makeshift jazz, and the virtuosic solos built from archived laughter. more ›

Bostonist is still in shock because of yesterday's four alarm fire on Peterborough Street in the Fenway that wiped out an entire block of independent restaurants. The damage? Thornton's, Sorento's Italian Gourmet, Umi Japanese Restaurant, Greek Isles, Rod-Dee Thai Cuisine II, El Pelón Taqueria, and Bon cleaners, a dry cleaning shop. Firefighters say that the fire traveled quickly and horizontally through the strip of single-story businesses, spreading through the hazardous roof air conditioning units. more ›

What do you think of the addition of video to the site? more ›

--So, just how many new construction jobs will the casinos proposed by Governor Deval Patrick create? He said 30,000. An independent analyst says no way: "... building three casinos at a cost of $1 billion each in Massachusetts would create a total of 4,000 to 5,000 new construction jobs for the duration of the building period, probably three years." Bostonist realized the other day that, when Tom Brady is spoken of on this site, it is usually in the context of his tremendous play and his devastating effect on the ladies. But we never really thought of his devastating effect on the guys … until now. A gentleman named Dave Hoke posted a song explaining all those funny feelings straight guys get when they think about Tom Brady: more ›

A viral video posted by our brothers and sisters at Gothamist shows some women who pole danced in a train car on a dare from darejunkies.com, much to the chagrin of the MTA. The video is something to behold, although, after seeing all the crotch-grinding and the dubious looks of some of the men enjoying themselves, we wouldn't want to touch anything in that car after the women finished. Here's the video: Given that this... more ›

Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is gaining appeal among Republicans thanks to his hard-right views, his ability to lose weight, and Chuck Norris. Obviously, this has former Massachusetts governor and presidential aspirant Mitt Romney thoroughly freaked out because Romney has spent boodles of money and has less to show for it. All Huckabee had to do was lose weight and gain an action star. Hence, Romney has unleashed an attack ad. However, we think Romney... more ›

The Holiday season is in full swing in NYC, with holiday lights in Brooklyn, a giant snow globe in Bryant Park and Chanukah specials for ham. And we interviewed soon-to-be-leaving-Gawker editor Choire Sicha, who said,... more ›

The Five Brothers, aka Mitt Romney's kids who all blog for Dad, are toothy, cute, and so wholesome it could make your brain bleed.
