How many phallic references does it take to get people to pay nearly $200 a pop for a jazz-rock show? When it comes to Steely Dan's upcoming four-night run in Boston, the answer is precisely two. Yes, the Donald Fagen-Walter Becker duo originally named after a sex toy is taking up a slightly perverse residence at the Hub's most prestigious and aptly named theater. This week, Becker and Fagen will dig into the vault for tracks from their early albums on September 28 (“The Dawn of Dan”), then let the fans vote on September 30 (“By Popular Demand”), and finish off with their 1976 release, “The Royal Scam,” on October 3. Tickets for all three shows are available through Telecharge and at the Wang Theatre box office for $48 - $198.
