Close to 1,000 residents of the Archstone apartments in the Chinatown neighborhood can't return home until at least Wednesday after a six-inch water main broke on the building's 11th floor of 28 stories. The break happened at about 10 p.m. in a pipe that supplies the sprinkler system. Boston fire officials reported no injuries. NECN reported "substantial damage" and "knee-high water" in apartments. The cold weather could be the cause. Resident Jonathan Matelon gave a vivid description. "Water came in, running through the door like it was Titanic. It was pretty bad," he said. We removed the damn coupling from the ground yesterday. Finally. It was in two pieces, both near the site of the water main break in May in Weston. After digging it out, it was sent for analysis.
