Boston-bred comedian Bill Burr gave us another incredible video tour of Los Angeles! This time it's the Hollywood Hills and Hollywood Boulevard. Burr plays Foxwoods on April 30th but if you can't get tickets to that, he will be coming to Boston on September 23 to play the Wilbur Theatre for a must-see show.
Paging through our calendar we thought we'd share some upcoming shows of note. This isn't meant to be a comprehensive list - just select events that are interesting and have a good chance of selling out in advance.
A few weeks ago we reviewed multi-Emmy winning TV writer, stand-up comedian, and radio host Greg Fitzsimmons' memoir Dear Mrs. Fitzsimmons: Tales of Redemption from an Irish Mailbox, a book we thoroughly recommend you check out now that you've received all those great book store gift cards for Christmas, etc. We interviewed Fitzsimmons about his book and his start in comedy in the Boston of the late 1980s and early 1990s so check out the video. Fitzsimmons will be performing at the Wilbur Theatre on January 29th at 7pm.
"Saturday Night Live" alumnus Rob Schneider has been working on a new stand-up show for the past year and will be bringing his show to the Hu Ke Lau in Chicopee this Friday (December 3rd) and the Wilbur Theatre on Saturday (December 4th) for multiple shows. Although Schneider has been working primarily in film for the past 10 years or so, he was inspired to revisit his standup comedy roots after witnessing George Carlin's final stage appearance in 2008 and after hanging out with friend and fellow "SNL" co-star Chris Rock who urged him to get back on stage. Schneider shared his unique brand of humor and progressive views in our in-depth interview.
TV pioneer, actor, author, and now stand-up comedian Tom Green performs in Boston one week from today, at the Wilbur Theatre, on Friday, September 10, at 7:30pm. Green got his start performing stand-up at the age of 15 before becoming a radio and then television pioneer with his variety show and shock humor antics. Green embarked on a world tour at the beginning of 2010 and his stop in Boston is not only the first time he has performed in the city, but will be only the 2nd time he has visited here.

Bill Burr is coming back to Boston this week for a series of shows at the Wilbur Theatre. We understand that tickets for his two Friday night shows are scarce but that there's still room at his Thursday night engagement - since he's doing only one show on Thursday (May 6th) night, he won't be holding anything back for later so that's our recommended show.
Did you miss comedian Doug Benson’s performance on Letterman last night? Fear not, spring-feverish friends, as the 2006 High Times "Stoner of the Year," widely known for his 2008 documentary, Super High Me, is gearing up for a long-awaited performance tonight at The Wilbur Theatre.

Norm MacDonald is a stand-up comedian.
It’s easy to forget this fact, given that most associate MacDonald with his long-running stint on Saturday Night Live and his various movie and television roles. Since then, MacDonald has cut several comedy albums and has a busy career as a voice actor, having voiced characters in the Dr. Dolittle movies, Farce of the Penguins and Family Guy. The Canadian funnyman, who got his big break at Montreal’s Just For Laughs festival back in 1987, is getting back to his stand-up roots and returning to Boston’s Wilbur Theatre on Saturday, March 13, to remind us all of why we love him so.
The commenters on yesterday's post about the unforgiveably awful Sonic Youth-Feelies show at the Wilbur Theatre have raised a lot of thoughtful points about the state of touring rock shows in today's world. Sound techs on the professional message board ProSoundWeb noticed the post yesterday and chimed in with their own advice, which has given this Bostonist a much better understanding of what went wrong on Sunday.
Is there a shittier live music venue in Boston than the Wilbur Theatre? We hope not. Let's just say that it takes an advanced level of suck to cancel out the awesomeness that is a Sonic Youth-Feelies concert and that the Wilbur Theatre managed to conjure it.
This Bostonist can still recall a time, years ago, when he grabbed a couple of tickets to a taping of the Last Call with Carson Daly (don't judge) just to see TV On The Radio. The two-song set by the fiery and still-blooming Brooklyn quintet was forever burned into Bostonist's memory and made the embarrassment of having to watch Daly blather on for half an hour more than worth it. Since that day in April 2004, this Bostonist saw nothing but a bright future for TV On The Radio; while he pushed songs from Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babes onto his friends for a solid year, hoping that one day the band would get its proper due. Thankfully, that day came, and those at the House of Blues last evening were all a part of it.
Steven Wright's May 29th show at the Wilbur Theatre has been sold out for a while, but we heard there is a chance to win free tickets if you follow the instructions at this Facebook page. Seems easy enough for a chance to see the Boston-bred Wright take the town by storm, also, be aware that Warner Brothers is about to re-release his 1985 classic "I Have a Pony".

Are you a fan of Demetri Martin, person? Perhaps you only just got acquainted with him via his new Comedy Central series, "Important Things with Demetri Martin", or caught a glimpse of him doing a late night segment or as "Youth Correspondent" on "The Daily Show". At any rate, enough Bostonians like him enough to have completely sold out all three of his shows: one on Thursday and two on Friday at The Wilbur Theater.
Funnyman Joel McHale of E!'s The Soup will be performing at the Wilbur Theatre this New Year's Eve. Three shows—two on NYE and one on January 1—promise to help you ring in the New Year with a few laughs. The New Year's Eve shows are sold out according to The Wilbur's Website (and people are seeking and selling tickets on Craigslist), but Ticketmaster still found us a single ticket (for those who like to laugh alone). Either way, the New Year's Day show has been added to appease McHale/Soup fans. No word on whether that bikini guy will appear at one of the gigs.
We've interviewed Michael Ian Black for you, we've reviewed a Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter show for you, and now we're happy to report that the entire Stella team, including David Wain, are going to be at The Wilbur Theatre tomorrow night to record a DVD of their performance which will be released early next year according to Michael Ian Black.
Comedian Rhys Darby, the man who brought "The Flight of the Conchords" manager, Murray, to life, will be coming to The Wilbur Theatre on Sunday, November 9th.
