The big movie news this week was the rock-bottom ratings for the Oscar telecast. People just didn't tune in. Maybe it was the fact that the big movies weren't money-makers, but do the masses really expect the Academy to nominate Spider-Man 3 for an Oscar? No. However, nominating Ratatouille for best picture instead of limiting it to the animated section might have at least piqued the interest of moviegoers.
--MBTA General Manager Dan Grabauskas has received plenty of angry e-mails in his time, and should be able to take some serious heat. But he is furious about an e-mail from a Department of Corrections employee that got way too personal. Grabauskas is gay, and the e-mailer used anti-gay slurs about Grabauskas when describing MBTA service. This being Boston, we can't hope (nor should we want, truth be told) to get the volume of celebrity sightings that Gawker does in New York. As such, we have to content ourselves with the usual cast of stodgy intellectuals and fresh-faced plagiarists who trudge through Cambridge from time to time. (And Michael Dukakis. Bostonist and Mrs. Bostonist saw the Duke standing on Arlington Street one morning last week, and we were more than a little excited, even though he's around all the time and not nearly as glamorous or coked up as Lindsay Lohan.) So when a top-secret informer told Bostonist that former Attorney General Janet Reno was spotted in the Harvard Club last night drinking a Beefeater martini, straight up, one olive, we were like, "meh." But then our source told us that Reno really did look exactly like Will Ferrell playing Janet Reno on Saturday Night Live (see photo), and we felt that was amusing enough that we should mention it here.
