For the second time in less than a week supporters of unions battling Wisconsin's governor over collective-bargaining rights rallied on Beacon Hill on Sunday. The Herald referred to "hundreds of people" involved in the rally, all seemingly loaded with exaggerated rhetoric. more ›

As public employees in Wisconsin battle for the right of collective bargaining against Republican Governor Scott Walker's efforts to control exploding debts associated with generous union contracts, rallies to support either side are growing around the country and came to Massachusetts on Tuesday afternoon on Beacon Hill. Pro-union groups at the rally included the Massachusetts Teachers Association, the AFL-CIO, and SEIU. An opposition group of Tea Party supporters also rallied to support Walker. more ›

Politicians everywhere have been looking for the next Scott Brown ever since Massachusetts discovered the first Scott Brown and made him a Senator. One possible candidate to be Brown 2.0 actually has a Boston connection. Sean Duffy appeared on MTV's "The Real World" Boston in 1997 and is running for Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District now represented by Rep. David Obey. Duffy's apparently running as an outsider/family man/athlete who is sick of insiders - stop us if it sounds familiar. In 2010, "The Real World" turns 23 and is set in Washington, D.C. Last Friday, State police arrested a 21-year-old World of Warcraft gamer who had driven to Madison, Wisc. to kill a 17-year-old rival, according to reports. Staties arrested Gloucester gamer Trevor L. Lucas on the Mass. Turnpike just outside of Boston on a warrant out of Wisconsin. They reported that Lucas was packing a real arsenal: "four semi-automatic hand guns - two of which were loaded - along with four loaded, large-capacity magazines, two stun guns, three pepper spray containers, two assault knives, two expandable police batons and seven sets of handcuffs." more ›

In a sensible move, the city council has finally voted to unregulate things that don't really need regulating, okaying sidewalk dining year-round (though why anyone would want to be outside in Boston for the cold half of the year remains uncertain). Next thing you know, maybe there will be beer in 7-Eleven! Or items sold without price stickers! It's almost unthinkable! Anyway, to accompany the announcement of the new outdoor dining anarchy, the Globe assembled a gallery of outdoor dining spots, which actually does a decent job of pointing out places not on Newbury. What it doesn't do, however, is show a knowledge of how to spell Wisconsin, thus earning the gallery a place in the typo of the week hall of fame/shame/spellcheck. more ›
