What would you expect a St. Vincent show to be like? If last time was any indication, we could've anticipated a "sweet-tart voice" interspersed with "accomplished freakouts" on guitar. As Pitchfork put it, St. Vincent (real name: Annie Clark) projects "an aura of eerie perfection"; she's "beautiful, poised, good-humored, and well-adjusted to a degree uncommon for rock performers." And Clark's impeccable persona isn't limited to the music. She's as beautiful as her voice would lead you to expect. The name of her website is impossibly precious: http://www.ilovestvincent.com/. She even tweets about Barthes. Come on!

Tallest Man on Earth Not Actually That Tall, But Certainly Able to Play Music

Yesterday, we described him as "Jens Lenkman with a banjo or Peter Bjorn and John except only one person." After seeing the Tallest Man on Earth at the Brattle last night, we stand by this description, and can provide further proof of TMoE's quirkiness. Presented by World Music/CRASHarts, the show provided a nice blend of cute antics and quality music, and the Brattle proved to be a surprisingly nice setting for a show.

Harvard Square is hosting the Arts First/Mayfair Festival, while Somerville steps up with a massive collection of Open Studios. Who will win in a battle that pits aesthetes against…more aesthetes? We'll call it hit or miss. Some weeks are totally on and our agenda's are filled to the brim with great stuff. Some weeks we're pulling together a bunch of shows and thinking that the list of "go see" music is surprisingly spare. Just like the weather is wonderful an warm some weeks and gloomy others. This week we've collected a number of selections that will bring some sunshine to your gloomy day - or...

Admittedly we’re a little low on the Saturday evening picks for this week. Mostly because we know we’ll still be swigging green beer by the pint – or at least too hung-over from Friday night to make it out to a show. Again this week we’ve put a little classical music for those of you that feel a little culture is good for the soul. Monday 3/13: Dilated Peoples and Little Brother Rakaa, Evidence...

There are all sorts of celebrations going on this week. One year anniversaries, EP releases and, well, we threw in some alt-country just to spice it up a little bit. Bostonist is looking forward to to warmer weather, but until then we know where they might be heating things up on stages around the Hub. Some of the great shows you might find a pair or two of Bostonist's ears this week. Monday 2/20: The...
