Yelp Boston's "Weekly Yelp" newsletter this morning promises restaurants "Beyond the City Limits" where diners can eat al fresco. We thought we might find a gem or two to highlight in our own Stuff to Eat in the Suburbs series, but alas. It turns out that Yelp's editors just don't have a map. Of the nine restaurants listed, only four of them are actually outside of Boston's city limits, in Cambridge and Salem. The other five are located in Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, Allston, and Dorchester: all parts of Boston last time we checked. Oakland's East Bay Express reports in its latest issue that local business owners suspect that Yelp might not be on the up and up. According to the Express story, Oakland businesses are getting calls from the popular user-generated review site that include an offer to clean up pesky negative review problems - for a price. more ›

The Dig is really trying to make its weekly Yelp ripoff feature awesome, and it is a nice idea: profile hot spots near a particular T station (sans smell commentary). Unfortunately, nary a week seems to go by without some kind of error. First it was misplacing venues near Haymarket. Now it's an egregious, yet amazing, typo: the type of typo that lends an unintended new meaning to a sentence. The Dig went way out on the Red Line, profiling the Milton stop, and tried to compliment Flat Black Coffee Company's "solid cup of fair-trade joe" and "delectable hot chocolate." Only problem? They called 'em Fat Black Coffee Company. Twice. Is this a new twist on the old "I like my coffee like I like my women" line? We're not sure we want to know. more ›
